Hey G8 brothers, It's been a life time since I posted, I've been busy as hell recently but have some time to play catch up. Sorry for dissapearing, but I'll be popping back up more often now :D Been working my ass off, just about to get hired at my Highway job, just about got my car back in tip top shape, except it's filthy right now. Also have a girl friend now (ball and chain) so that's been taking up A LOT of my time and $$$ but at least she loves the car and likes to go fast  As much as I love this car and so does everybody else that see's it, it may be time to part with it when I'm done bringing her back to tip top shape. I don't wanna stick anyone with a car that may have problems, I wanna make a good reputation for myself ;) So i'll be having everything checked (all fluids, brakes, valve springs, EVERYTHING!) I've done calculations dozens of times, got insurance quotes, etc, and with my new job, I'd be able to afford a Z06 in about a year so, and after car payments and insurance, STILL have more money to myself then I have now! So I may go that route :D :D :D

So what has all my G8 brothers been up to!? I think I have a lot of catching up to do, it's been a while. George, hows that 5.0 treating you? I'm really liking the new stang as well, and the Mustang Boss looks absolutely awsome!!!

hey Mario! Why get the vette now? you already have a girl!!!!!! but seriously, save those pennies....you can have a an expensive toy later.im sure anyone here that did the same thing would go back and take the 50k(plus interest) and put it towards a house or pay off college, etc and wouldnt have had to ask mom and dad for a quick loan when it was wedding time or closing time.

then again...........its a Z06! :P

Take a look at used Z06s, there are some under $40K.

I have a converter and am working on getting some headers for the hated stang.

lol the vette is for me, not the girl. I am looking at slightly used, very low mile Z06's. I would imagine them going down a nice amount also when the C7 vette comes out which is around the time I'm looking to buy. Cliff, I hear what your saying. After selling the G8, I wouldn't be taking a huge hit buying the Z06. Did lots of talking to the parents about it and while they just don't want me to have it because they think they are dangerous  Anything can still happen. If everything is good, it should be more do-able then the G8 was when I bought it. I am getting a 24k a year raise after all :D But still, we shall see when the time comes but as of now, it's lookin' good

George, I really like the new 5.0 Those stang haters must look really pissed in your rear view :bleh:

Whats up, welcome back!

Just wondering why you want to part with the G8 for a Z06? Looks, just looking to go fast, mid life crisis? If its not looks or midlife crisis then for less then a third the cost of a used Z06 you could throw an ERL shortblock and supercar coilovers on your G8 and roll out on 99% of the Vette's out there. Just an idea...

I toyed with the idea of going all out with the G8. I just like the idea of getting a car faster then mine is now, stock, as a starting point! It just seems like a very fun car to drive, with all that power and handling etc. That, and the 6 speed will add to the enjoyable, fun driving experience. A couple of bolt ons with tires, and I'm in the 10's trapping around 130mph!!! And that's without going very far from it's stock form. That and I got a winter beater so the vette will get to stay pretty sleeping in the garage in the season of ice, salt, and vehicle destruction

Rear view is the only place I see them... they really dont like being beat by a family car. Porsche guys are the worst at losing though!

Gotcha, takes a good driver to get them going. I've watched people make 20 runs in a Z06 and only a couple of them in the 11's but a good driver can get low 11's once they learn the car.

True especially on the 6 speed part. Still takes a fair number of boltons to get a consistent 10 sec Z06 and they certainly aren't cheap. Easier to just throw a cam and DR's on it.

I wanna try to refrain from the cam, not because I'm anti-cam, but because what it takes to tune the car perfectly for it. Lots of time and trial and error went into getting my tune perfect, took just about a year. But now, it's tuned just about as it would be if the car came cammed from the factory :D Also, the Z06 has a pretty stout cam as is. Just wanna do long tubes, CAI, maybe intake manifold and tb porting, tune, tires and the best, cheapest mod of all, PRACTICE DRIVING THE CAR! I've seen a lot of videos and read up a lot on what "Ranger" has to say about getting the Z06 down the track as quickly as possible and learned quite a bit about doing so and driving in general, as well as the C6 Z06's clutch behaviorisms. Someone the other day on the corvette forum ran consistant 10.3's and 10.4's with long tubes w/o cats, exhaust, CAI, fast lsx 102mm intake and tb, clutch and tune!!! Trapping around 133-134mph! He had tires of course.

But regardless of how fast it is, I'll always miss the G8. The car that got me into cars. I have a feeling when I'm 40-50, I'll probably want it again and wish I never sold it lol

Yep I've watched Ranger and Jamie drive many cars down the track, they come to our rentals. I was there when Jamie set the stock Z06 record running 10's. They are great drivers! But it took them a ton of passes to dial it in but they have fun doing it and thats what counts!
