It would be nice, but I'm not counting on it. Paul, can you tell if it's complete? Wires running to all the gages, etc?

Yes mate. It's all complete. It's actually a work of art.
It's all fully plumbed with the only 2 connectors you have to join into shown here:

Just to make sure I understand you Paul, are you saying that you don't have to splice wires or you will still have to splice? Sorry for the confusion. If I can do this without a large part of the dash I'll do it, but if not then I don't want to jump in that far yet.

From my understanding it depends what year and model car you have.
Some will plug straight into those 2 x female connectors.

Other cars you have to adapt from those 2 connectors and splice into the car wiring.

On my 08 it is not just "plug and play" some wiring has to be done.

I'm holding out a little hope that something changed between the early 09's Canada got and my later US 09. If not, I can splice a few wires. No biggie.

Hi
Just thought I'd clear up that the gauge pods do not plug in to any model except a HSV.The smaller single wire plug (k line) is also not used. They can be spliced in relatively easily though. Here is a picture of some black inserts I had made for A$60.They match the interior of a Calais much better.

Cheers

Not that I mind our Atari gauges, but the the triple guages just look damn good. So there is some cutting and splicing since I take it is not PnP?

Let me know if you need any help along the way.

The smaller stuff like badges, wheelcaps, engine covers, you don't lose much ordering in bits and pieces as required.

Where you can save yourself real money is by trying to combine anything over a meter long (radiator cover, sunshade, gutter trim pieces) because the freight on these is based on the cubic volume and not the weight. Individual parts cost less than the airfreight on all of those bits.

Wow, I think the black faced gauges look very good. What is/are the back lighting options? While I'm not super crazy about the orange glow that Pontiacs have I do want the gauges to match as much as possible.

These pics show the leds. The One underneath the symbol I have never seen lit and the factory dials don't allow light through at that position.ie you don't need to change it.The other 2 led's I replaced with bright white automotive backlighting leds I purchased online from the USA.The gauges come with red backlighting but can be changed to whatever you want.I can't find the receipt at the moment but I'll post the led brightness level and supplier if I do.

It's not.
I posted it with Australia Post.........as soon as it hits US territory then USPS handles the delivery side of things.
It's the opposite for stuff travelling the other way.
Pretty sure all the countries do it the same way.

Yes......either buy the complete HSV triple pod (with gauges and all the wiring) off ebay.com.au

or
I can get the bare pod with no electrics and no gauges , and you fit your own 2+ 1/16" gauges and senders etc

Yes the Aeroforce gauges will fit the pod and work with the G8*, though three might be a bit overkill :)

*Todd from Aeroforce gave me a gauge to use in my G8 in return for some testing time and feedback on how it works. The gauge works fine except that for some reason the CANBUS does not always shutdown when you turn off the car and the gauge stays on. The gauge has a preprogrammed timeout and shuts off after a few minutes to prevent battery drain. Aeroforce is aware of the issue but hasn't come up with a solution just yet.

Could you not use the current 12v hook up that is on the G8 instead of buying the cubby compartment or the smokers package? Just buy the gauges and the trim that surrounds gauges, radio, and shifter?

I'm guessing the stereo stack surround trim (which you need to fit the pod on top of) could have different mounting pad positions to the original surround. So that the original G8 cubby/12V assembly does not line up.

There's a huge thread on this over at ls1.com.au where after a lot of mucking around the final "must have" parts list was declared.
A couple guys have tried to short-cut and have ended up needing more parts and more freight to get them back on the beaten track.

peterg22000 has fitted the Holden cubby and later the Holden smokers pack....he'd be the one to know exactly what differences there are between those items and the original G8 cubby / 12V assembly.

you can get a full size cubby and most likely re use the power outlet from the orininal compartment but you would need to find a good location then cut a hole and mount it.
However I couldn't figure out how to ge the outlet out of the OE compartment without doing an damage, so I got the smokers pack which looks very good IMO.

On a side note, I have the first cubby tha I got, and have no use for it, if anyone would like it, all I want is to break even on what it cost me in the first place.

Any other questons, feel free to ask me..

*note, I can only get on THIS site from work, as it doesnt appier compatable with IE8, and I can't sign in from home.*
