Hey guys,

Pretty much decided to do the Lonnie's fuel system instead of my big plan. As it stands I'm having trouble getting help to drop the fuel tank and reinstall it. I was thinking it might be possible to install Lonnie's system through a "Norm panel" (see http://forum.grrrr8.net/showthread.php?t=11070 ). I asked Nate and he said he doesn't think so; waiting to hear from Aden as to his opinion. Looking for reasons and other opinions before I junk the idea.

Aden has done at least a few of these and should know better than me.

Wish I could see a top view of Lonnie's system installed. That way I could try to plan around any issues with the lines. I used to work on airplanes, I'm real good at working through small access holes.

As I understand it he modifies the bucket to accept twin pumps, tank is not changed, the bucket goes in same hole.

OK, lines hook right on top, just need to feed them through to get there. Does anything have it go into the hole on the driver's side of the tank? What's in the bag?

The wiring harness was in the bag. I don't have any pics of that.

Looks pretty big. I guess some wires go all the way to the engine comp though.

Hmmmmm... might be tricky getting the bucket laid over far enough to get the float in?

I am doing the lonnies also... just cut out the floor... you need to either pound the floor up a bit or cut out so I just did the cutout also.... if you dont, then with the new lonnies fittings it will jam up against the floor board and crack your pump... it is best if you just cut a larger hole in the floor.... you will be able to get it in and out by tipping it to get the float in and then sliding the pump in...

I had pics of the floor cutout but darn camera "errored" the pics... you dont have to do anything on the drivers side... it stays the same as stock. I am making a bigger hole than Norm did but should be easier to have the lonnies fittings work and also get the pump in and out.... without the floor cutout... it is a pain in the ass to get the tank out... I will have it done by end of next week so if you need anything, let me know...

Tom open up a hole like Norm first so you can inspect the area the open a larger hole to do whats needed..

Tom, you can make the hole as big as you need and then use a flanger tool to clean up the area and fit a panel.

Yea, sounds like a plan. I ordered a bucket assy off ebay to use for my trade so I don't have to have an open tank in my garage while I wait.

Good to know that I can do the upgrade when needed with the access panel. Thanks guys for the info.

Norm, where did you get round plate to cover it? No way I can cut a good circle in sheet.

I cut the round cover using the nibbler leaving about 1/16 larger than the guide line I had drawn and then a bench grinder to clean/true it up to the guide line. The nibbler doesn't make the cleanest cut, so I had planned on grinding it from the start. If you determine how you are going to attach it you want to leave enough overlap for that - Bolts and u-nuts in my case.

This is all there is, right? The sender or whatever is in the other tank hole is not touched?

One question I have is how does the drivers side get fuel to the passenger side? In other cars I have worked on it was a venturi siphon jet which was "powered" by flow from the fuel pump on the passenger side. But you guys are saying that the fuel pump hat/bucket is not attached to anything whatsoever on the driver side? Just curious because I have not personally torn into the G8 in tank fuel pump assembly yet.

The bucket is attached with a piece of plastic hose in the tank. You have to connect it to the bucket when installing. If I'm recalling correctly.

That's right, can tell by looking at stock bucket.

Anyone know if its possible to lower the tank a bit to get clearance without pulling it (or all the crap associated)?

I just used a screwdriver and a hammer--- rotate the ring about 1/2" and it will come right off....

Thanks. Been reading horror stories about people having trouble with them on other cars. No biggie?

yup just knock in the other direction, you should start working on the car you will see most this stuff is way easier than your reading online

I'll probably do it Saturday. Just like to get all the possible issues answered before I start. There's some real bad stories out there about these rings. The tool costs $90, I would go for it if I could get it in time but can't.

Im subscribing to this thread. I am interested on cutting a hole under the rear seat to get lonnie's setup in and the stock one out. If you guys can post pictures or a how to and the progress of the build it would be awesome.

Now that I have the pumps in hand I can see that running the wiring harness will be interesting. No way those big connectors are going to be able to be fished around the tank I think. Not sure yet how I'll do it.
