Just picked up this thing over the weekend. It is in extremely good shape. Aside from the 197k on the clock.

Well kept records dating back to its first oil change, almost all the work was done at a chevy dealer.

What areas should I concern putting a little attention to?

I already changed the plugs (looked good), changed the diff fluid (looked good also), I checked the tranny fluid on the stick at it looks to be fairly fresh still so I don't wanna drop the pan just yet. There is a slight clunk when first hitting the accelerator from a stop and it has hd the rear u-joints replaced, don't know hoe long ago. The rear tranny seal appears to be seeping a little as well as the front of the block, under the timing chain cover. Over all it runs great and aside from the loose feeling front end and the tranny, this thing was a steal for 3k.

Brakes/rotors had been changed recently but I'm not sure of the wheel bearings.

Thoughts?

Intake gaskets were the biggest issue with them. They were very good trucks overall. I would say you have a well maintained truck and just keep up with the maint/repairs.

The clunk can be the splines on the rear shaft need to be greased, slack in the spider gears inside the diff or a worn trans mount.

I have a 97 4wd suburban... 182k on the clock... Got it for 4k a few months ago, but it has a SRTA trans in it and a GM crate motor with about 60k on it... Love this truck!

How difficult would it be to convert from the 5 lug hubs to the 6 lug hubs? I would hope the front would be as simple as swapping rotors but something tells me it isn't that easy. For the rear, I'm clueless, would it require swapping the entire axle?

Theres a ton of newer 6 lug take off wheels for sale cheap, just seeking out my options

Rather than start a new thread I have a question about the A/C in this thing.

I bought one of those A/C charge kits from Walmart as the A/C doesn't blow cold at all. Hooked it up and it reads on the gauge exactly where it should read according to the directions. The A/C compressor clicks on and off when the A/C is on. Not too sure where I should start to try and get this A/C back to cold. Should I drain all the R134 out and refill? It's obviously not leaking because the gauge says its in the pressure it should be.
