First of all, let's start with the very first dyno pull. This thread explains all. Note what Patrick G. said later in the thread that was right on.

http://forum.grrrr8.net/showthread.php?t=9419&highlight=dyno

I was so pissed off with the results, I didn't make a copy of the dyno sheet. We can note that it was run in the hot summer plus I had run some 87 octane gas before the run. Since then, the car has never seen anything other than 93 octane.

The one good thing is that before the CAI was put on, I made a bone stock pass at 12.933 @ 107.70 which made me a lot happier than the dyno run made me. I looked at the quarter mile time as more of a real world facter versus the dyno run.

Later Meatbag sponsored another dyno day and I managed a 338.96

http://forum.grrrr8.net/showthread.php?t=15659&p=235669&viewfull=1#post235669

Here is my video of those runs.

Later on I put some drag radials on the car, but didn't notice any difference in the launch or times.

About a month ago, Patrick G. shows up and does a quick tune on my car.

http://forum.grrrr8.net/showthread.php?t=20889

Now, I was solidly in the 12's, but another night was coming. I just posted quick info and the timeslip.

http://forum.grrrr8.net/showthread.php?t=153&p=310437&viewfull=1#post310437

I also posted a video, not of the 12.66 run, but one of a 12.67 run.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daKBDfADyq8

Well since Patrick G started off with a tune, may as well let him finish up. My mods are now:

American Racing Headers 1-7/8" x 3"
3" X-Pipe and conn. pipes with high flow cats
Magna flow 12468 in the middle
Stock GXP axelbacks and mufflers.

Rotofab CAI

Yank 3200 torque converter

Patrick G tune

When racing Nitto NT05R on 17" GTO rims.

The final rwhp number is 408. I will pick up the car tomorrow. I was very happy with picking up about .3-.4 on the quarter on his first tune, and I'm hoping that since the car now has a final tune along with headers and a stall that I will be knocking at the 11.99 door.

Your GXP is definitely not slow any more Jim. Time to change your signature. With some mine shaft air and some traction, you have a legitimate shot at 11s. Enjoyed tuning on your car!

Signature is changed.

I think you need to expand your operations to the Houston area, LOL, however it was well worth the drive.
Did you make that video we talked about.....LOL

Trust me that I will be watching the weather very carefully until around April.

That's pretty awesome Jim. I can't wait to see you hit 11s soon! My plan is in action as we speak....

I need a night at the track with -2000 DA and a 20 mph wind blowing from south to north. Not too much to ask for.

I can safely state the following. 25 mpg on the highway, no drone at all, and until WOT the car was just as quiet as before the mods. Seat of the pants.................OMG!
The car wants to s**t and get, pure and simple, and it's so quiet at normal driving you wouldn't dream there's some headers on it.

Sound clip at WOT. I had to put the camcorder on the seat, so I just left the lens cap on.

Nice write up on your car. You are making about the same power as me so you should be able to do low 12s all day long and maybe break into the 11s on the right night.

The wife was very happy because our GTO was very LOUD. I stuck my foot in it with TC off on the highway in front of the shop, and couldn't handle the power. Just waiting for HRP or whatever it's called now a days to open up. This thing is a freaking beast.

Maybe in the future you can use the outside sound clip.

CONTINUATION FROM THE PRIMARY POST AS A PART OF THE HISTORY OF MY CAR

I'm just a bolt on type of guy. Never want to go the cam, nitrous, or forced induction avenues to get real low times.

Once I took delivery of my auto GXP my goal was to break into the 12's bone stock which I did with a 12.933.

I knew I wanted to mod my car like my 2005 A4 GTO. This car had basically a tune, ARH 1 7/8 headers, 3200 Vig. converter, drag radials, cai, and exhaust cutouts. The PB of the GTO was a 12.126 which placed the car on two occasions as the fastest bolt on car on LS1GTO.com.

My 2009 A6 Vette ran a bone stock PB of 12.15 on a great night of around -1500 DA.

All runs were made at Houston Raceway Park, which is now Royal Purple Raceway. To be honest, racing here puts me at a real advantage. RPR is a world class raceway and is about 30-40 feet above sea level. The track is usually well prepped. The disadvantage is that we can't really try for a PB between April and November. Even if we have a cold front, the winds come from the north, which is the way we run. What good is it to have a -1000 DA, but a 10 mph head wind? Plus the track is only open on Friday nights and it gets real crowded. One major break down on the track leads to a miserable night. Every now and then you will get a great night of -800 DA and everything runs so smooth you can almost hot lap all night long. This was last night.

My first goal is to beat my PB of 12.32 set last week.
My next goal was to beat the Vette PB of 12.15
The next goal was to beat the GTO PB or 12.12.
My next goal was to get into the 12.0x range,
Then my last goal is to hit any 11.9xx

So time to head on out. Track prep= lower the Nitto NT05R drag radials down to 20 pounds.

1. 12.176 @ 112.01___ 1.717 First goal reached and I have a new PB. Looking good so far.

2. 12.131 @ 112.65___ 1.738 Bye-Bye Vette. This is my second goal, and very close to beating the 12.12 of the GTO.

3. 12.206 @ 111.45___ 1.742 Hot lapped car. Still a great run.

4. 12.154 @ 112.31___ 1.737 Another good run, wondering what it takes to beat the goat. I beat a C5 Z06 so bad it wasn't even funny. He was in the rear view mirror.

************************************************** ***************

Stuck at the 12.18's...................yes, these runs are in order, believe it or not. But first I lowered the air in the tires to around 16 pounds.

5. 12.183 @ 112.58___ 1.771
6. 12.180 @ 112.11___ 1.720

opppppppssssssssss................how embarrassing...............Guy in a sharp SRT8 Jeep was talking about how he hadn't been beaten off the line all night. Well, I'll be your huckleberry. I do my normal take the traction control off, and put in M2 to roll into the water and heat up the Nittos, then stage. Hey dumb a@@, how about taking the car out of M2 before making your run. Yea, he got me well off the line and I quickly hit the limiter and coasted for a real nice 15.xxx

7. 12.187 @ 112.11___ 1.761

Raised the air in the tires back to around 22 pounds.

8. 12.181 @ 112.23___ 1.738

It's about 11:45 and the track will close down in 15 minutes. I check the temp and it's around 190 degrees. I park real close to the staging lanes and raise the hood. I'm waiting for the announcer to announce last runs, then I will close up the hood and ease on up. I want the last run to count and choose to cool down the car versus hot lapping to some 12.20's.

I also notice a C6 Z06 steadily hot lapping with a bunch of 11.9x runs. I thought it would be cool to line up against him, hopefully his hot lapping would heat up his LS7 (not sure of his mods, but stock he's 505, probably 450 at the wheels and about 500 pounds lighter than I am) and the race could be interesting. However at around 11:50 he runs a 11.7. Oh man....................

Anyway they announce last race. I close up the hood and head for my right side lane. Low and behold my yellow Z06 buddy pulls up next to me.

OK Jim, you'd better be at your best to be able to compete with the Z06. I heat up the Nittos, and yes, I take it out of M2 and we line up. The lights go down and I bust out with a .034 reaction time. The track gets smaller and smaller as we head on down. Through about the 1/8th mile, I don't see him out of the corner of my eye, and as we head to the finish, I see him slowly creeping beside me, then he has me by a fender. I still don't know who got the win light. It was that close. I know he got me, but did he get me in time? His time was in the 11.7's, but my cutting a great .034 light made the race............well made the race a race.

9. 12.091 @ 112.59___ 1.719

Here is the best video I could muster up, taken by a good guy with a camera phone. This is a video of one of the 12.18 runs.

What a night! I reached every goal but an 11.9xx

This makes my car the fastest G8 with a stock cam, without nitrous or any type of forced induction on two major G8 forums.

Nice story. Thanks for sharing. Personally to me, if you did a stall , you might as well do a cam as well ;-) but, that's just my opinion. Have you had any trouble with your stall like some of the others on here or did Patrick get all the bugs tuned out?

The only problem with the stall is that I can't pass a gas station.

CONTINUATION FROM THE PRIMARY POST AS A PART OF THE HISTORY OF MY CAR

Here is a another quick update.

I went again on 1/28/11 and with a DA of +88 I hit my PB of 12.036 @ 113.50 with a 60' of 1.719. I removed the exhaust from behind the X pipe all the way back, freeing up some weight and maybe a couple of horsepower. You know, at this point with the times being within a tenth of each other, I really can't tell the difference between a 12.03 or a 12.13. Honestly.

So right now I'm at 12.03 and within 4 freaking hundredths of my 11.999 goal. Next Friday 2/4/11 looks to be weather wise a great night to race. Supposedly cold air blowing from the west, but who really knows exactly 6 days out? If I had a lighter driver than myself (me 280), around 180 pounds, then using the old 100 lbs = .1, then we're there. That's how close we really are. If the DA would have been around -300, then we're there.

I do have another plan to drop a bit of weight.

Here is a video and timeslip of last night's action.

Hey Jim, congrats on the new PBs! I enjoy reading the updates too, keep up the good work. If I ever end up modding my GXP similar to you and taking it all the way down to Texas, at least I know you won't have a driver weight advantage/disadvantage on me. I am equally "skinny-challenged" (alright, on a good day I might have a 5 lb advantage). Keep up the good work, and hope to read about an 11 soon!

GOT THAT 11!

I didn't notice that I hadn't gotten some sort of closure and forgot that I didn't post my 11.91 second run on this thread.

Finally!

Bolt ons only, ARH 1 7/8 headers, 3200 Yank, Rotofab CAI, Nitto NT05R drag radials, tune by Patrick G, installation work by Kurt.

This should put me several slots up the ranks.

Not just one time running an 11.9xx, but three times. Everything I did tonight was like the last time I went out and raced, except the DA was -1053 versus +88. The only prep was to lower the air in the Nittos to 20 pounds, and took the exhaust off behind the cats.

1.___11.942 @ 113.87___1.688
2.___11.915 @ 114.51___1.687
3.___11.921 @ 114.29___1.697
4.___12.049 @ 113.91___1.733

As of tonight I have reached any and all goals I have ever realistically set for the car. My primary goal was to get a bone stock 12.9XX, which I got (12.933 @ 107.70___1.959) in December 2009, then I wanted to get an 11.9XX with just bolt ons. Tomorrow I put the exhaust back on, Monday I put the GXP wheels back on and remove the Nitto drag radials. I can freely state the my racing is done for this year. At this time, there is nothing more to prove to myself or anybody else. I may even take off the Yank and put the stock converter back on.

I now have a car capable (in ideal conditions) of running a high 11 second quarter mile. Is my car normally an 11.9 second car? NO!!!!!! Let's don't forget this. My car is a 11.9 second car in ideal or a perfect storm of conditions.

Jim,

This story rocks.... and I can't believe how quiet you car is with the 12468 added in. This is definately the wife friendly direction I'm going to go in with my GXP exhaust.

At idle and modest throttle is it any louder then stock?

Thanks for the kind remarks.

You have to go almost wide open for the car to get really loud.

Here is a video of how neat and clean the install is.
