I just realized it is not on the car. I looked in the trunk and sure enough, there it was. Now my question is should I put it on myself and risk screwing something up or just have the dealer put it on when I get my TCM update? I have a drill, but I can't bring my self to put holes in my bumper.

I put mine on with no problems.
Just take a minute and make sure it is straight across
before you drill.

Unless a plate is required in your state the dealer did you a favor. Put it in the shed in case you move where it's required.

Yes, but I have an idea to get around this. Hopefully I can do it in the next couple months.

I drove from dallas to el paso to visit my parents a couple months back and the state troopers pulled me over twice for it. Otherwise, I haven't been bugged at all (I received warnings and a "nice car" comment :)).

My dad's friend works pretty high up in the fire department. Long story short is I used to do that on my first car, then he showed me pictures where someone did the same. They were in a simple wreck and that license plate decapitated the driver. So no, I wont be doing that.

is it required in tx to have a front plate?

Unfortunately yes. here is the response I received from the DMV regarding this:

Thank you for your inquiry to our web site regarding the requirement to
display two license plates in Texas.

Section 502.404 of the Transportation Code requires a vehicle operator
to display a license plate issued by the state of Texas on the front and
rear of a passenger vehicle or truck registered in Texas to operate on
the public roadways. A plate is required to be displayed on the rear of
a road tractor, motorcycle, trailer, or semitrailer registered to
operate on the public roadways.

An offense under this section is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine not
to exceed $200.

This department is a recording agency only and has no law enforcement
authority. More specific questions regarding this issue should be
directed to your local law enforcement agency or the Texas Department of
Public Safety at (512) 424-2600.

If your vehicle was purchased in another state, it may not have license
plate brackets on the front and rear of the vehicle. Some of the larger
auto parts stores sell plate brackets. If you are unable to locate a
bracket to fit your vehicle, we suggest you contact a dealer handling
your make of vehicle.

Apparently, I emailed the wrong department, but they answered the question nonetheless.

What size bit did you use? I just have a pouch with the hardware in it with no size specificatons.
