we're thinking about debadging the rear end of the G8. i'm talking about the GT, PONTIAC, and G8.

my concern is that some of the PONTIAC is on the vinyl and i don't want to take any of the vinyl with it. what's the best way to get the badges off and not leave any residue? i debadged my GT on my own, and effed up the paint in a couple places. so when i do this, i want to do it right. or am i better off taking it to a pro?

and for the sides, we're definitely taking off the "GM" Chiclets and replacing them with these:

What did you use the mess up the paint?
Cold is your enemy with debadging. Use a hair dryer and warm the badges up. Get some fishing line and get it behind the badge, gently saw though the rubber backing.
Goof off with remove the adhesive. Adam's polishes also has something too. Check their forum link.

I see the license plate has the Michigan logo on it. Has the bleeding stopped from last night?

i wouldn't use a hair dryer on the part that's on the vinyl - the vinyl will start to pull up. i've worked with vinyl stripes in the past and that's how i took them off - with a hair dryer. you may be able to use fishing line on the letters on the vinyl and then goof off to get rid of the residue.

There is very minimal sticky on the Pontiac letters. Being careful with the fishing line should do the trick.

Personally I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot poll. I'd be to afraid to mess up the mat silver vinyl by putting a slight shine on it when scrubbing the sticker goo off.

do it backwards...starting with the C-A from pontiac...the first letter on the vinyl is the I and its the easiest letter to take off...try it and if you feel comfortable do the rest of the letters...if not take it to a pro. fishing line only no heat.

TheTugBoat's suggestion is the way to go, do it backwards.

WD-40 and microfiber towel removes sticky the best IMO...factory stickers on the front visors to the left over double stick tape.

Debadging is a snap, only that stripe throws a possible wrench in the works....

If you do somehow ruin the stripe, if it's the genuine Holden silver track stripe, then I can help.
The spoiler section of the Holden stripe kit has a seperate part number. From memory its about $40 to buy. It's small and light so shipping wont cost much. You could use that to go on the vertical rear trunk section.

So its a pain but not the end of the world if it does get damaged.

You just took away what really distinguishes the back of the car. Put 'em back on, it looks like a rental car now, LOL! But the rest of it looks awesome!

WD-40 and microfiber towel

Yeah, WD-40 or mineral spirits (paint thinner) is good and won't harm the paint. Goof off and acetone may soften the paint if left on too long.

Slight hijacking, but could you take a picture of the front of your car and a shot of the hood too? I like those stripes.

Is it possible to get these off without leaving that horrible residue? I tried and quit because of it.

Heating them with a hair dryer works good. Then peal them off very slowly starting in one corner. If any residue is left, use goo be gone. WD-40 leaves a oily reisdue.

Here is what my rear looks like, I will be adding the V soon and maybe the V8 6.0 badge. I am going to do the chicklets soon as it gets warmer.
