I have gotten a set of Gibson Performance’s axlebacks, #618002 in Stainless. This setup has been out for a while but no one has documented their experience with it, so I wanted to give them a try.

Interesting design, X pipe inside a muffler with no glass packing, so nothing to blow out.
I was surprised that even though there is no packing, these mufflers retained a deep sound, and way less raspy than the GXP mufflers.

I love that the tips are exchangeable, even though these tips are pretty cool, fit the diffuser perfectly, and are good quality

I found it interesting that the pipe leading up to the muffler is probably like 3 inches, looks wide compared to my 2.5” ARH system.

They compare to the Magnaflows in several ways, except they are about 20% louder, and also drone the same amount. I kept my fingers crossed for there to be no drone, or at least less than the magnaflows, but that did not come true. I also hoped that the sound would be deep and muscular, and that I got plenty of. If I could pick between a dronefree Magnaflow and a dronefree Gibson, Id pick the Gibson. Therefore, I will be adding a mid muffler and some sound proofing, and then quite possibly, j pipes, and after that I will an awesome exhaust.
Exhaust voyage not over yet…. but I can see the end.

I talked with Shawn Gibson and some of his gang at SEMA. They all seemed like very comitted guys. The stuff I saw looked great and well made.

Good looking and good sounding system. What's the current pricing on these?

Nice review. iirc, solo now sells their j-bend pipes "a la carte" that you can weld directly to your axlebacks to kill all the drone completely.

i had a set of their adjustable Js, and endedup selling them. im going wiht a mid muffler first, because there is a certain amount of drone i can tolerate. if i can kill 50% or more, im good to go. the other best thing about the mid muffler is itll cut down on the rasp and make an even deeper roar. what else could i ask for?

Js will be the last resort.

right stock mufflers are back on fot hte winter and it SUCKS. i will not settle for silence.

last time i checked, i saw they were lower priced than all axlebacks, more in the range of the Pypes. Id give them a call and see if they can cut you a nice deal.

Aye, they're still sitting in the box in my breeze way. Intend to get them put on this coming weekend. :)

I think with a Magnaflow 12468 you'll be all set with the drone. Pat and a few others have reported good success with that in the tunnel.

believe me, i miss those pipes, good quality.

i think the mid muff will work either way, and ifit doesnt do enough, i might try a soundproofing mat in the trunk and back seats.

Yes, mtoly, j-pipes usually are the last resort, because they usually are the solution. But who am I to say? 28" or so of stainless steel magic.

i dont doubt the J pipes, but due to cosmetics and irriverisble cutting/welding, i wanna see if i can knock down the drone enough in another way first. a touch of drone is actually quite nice sounding.

Rumble is nice; drone still sounds annoying.
