Is it just me or do other G8 owners hear the gas sloshing around in the tank while stopped at a light or parking? I have 3/4 of tank and I hear it a lot. This is the first I've owned here I've heard the fuel. :\

Never heard it and rarely have radio on. Make sure the coolant is full because on some cars when its low you hear the water in the heater core.

Surely our tanks are baffled? I really think this might be something else.

They are. Thats why I think it might be whats called "gurgling" in the heater core. Very similiar sound.

Thanks for the replies. Actually that makes a lot of sense because I didn't notice this when I first got the car - I don't recall when I first started hearing it. The direction of the sound is what eludes me since I hear it from behind me. Is it normal to lose some coolant through evaporation in 5 months?
I hear the sound the most when I make short movements with the car, like when I release then hit the brake to bring the car into the garage a foot or so more to clear the garage door, then I hear the sloshing.

I don't hear any sloshing in mine. But I was just thinking. This may sound stupid. Have you looked in the spare tire well just to make sure you don't have water in there. Water could have seeped into the trunk from say a leaky trunk gasket. This is just a wild a$$ guess.

It's a good idea though. Also, anything else in the trunk that could be moving around making noise?

Get rid of the moonshine in the trunk, just kidding. Take it to the dealer and give them the problem, that's where this one belongs.

I never take the car to the dealer until I fully understand the nature of the problem, and can tell them how to fix it!

Thanks for the tips and ideas. The spare tire bay is dry. I just put my new 18" stock wheel and spare tire kit in there. I think I just have sensitive hearing; it's definitely coming from the back of the car and the sloshing sound isn't as pronounced as I originally stated it to be. I might mention it to the dealership next time I go in for routine maintenance next month, but I'm not too worried about it. I only hear it when I enter my garage (ie quiet environment), not when I'm driving about.
Are all gas tanks baffled nowadays? Is there a freak chance that I got an non-baffled one?

Could your spare be sliding around?

My gas sloshes around it my tank, mostly when it's around 3/4 full. I hear it more when using reverse coming to a stop. I hear backing into my space here at work all the time.

That's exactly when I hear it the most too.

I'll be listening for it on mine, have never noticed it though.

I herd it today when coming to a stop on a hill with just over .25 of a tank left, and the tunes off.
You're not crazy.

Same here. I hear mine all of the time when backing up and stopping more then when going forward. Definitely the gas.

If you do the 5 MPH brake test with 1/2 to 3/4 tank full of gas, you will hear it slosh every time :)

Wow, I'm glad I'm not alone with this experience! At first I was hesitant to bring it up. I experience this a lot where something weird is going on with my car and no one elses. :)
