I want to try to go to a different track (Firebird Raceway in Phoenix,AZ) but I've heard so many stories about failing tech inspection due to short wheel studs. There were some cases that the person was using closed lug nuts and failed tech inspection. So, I'm debating whether i need to replace the stock wheels studs with longer ones or not. I just don't want to drive for about 2hrs and not be able to race. Have you guys experienced this when going through tech inspection at the drag strip?

I'm running GTO spare wheels and GTO rims (17") as drag setup.

PS. I need to find some open lugnuts (stocker) and measure the distance... LOL!

This is what i found from the 2008 NHRA Rule book:

The thread engagement on all wheelstuds to the lugnut must be equivalent to or greater than the diameter of the stud. Length of stud does not determine permissibility; length of the engagement between the stud and hex portion of the lug determines permissibility.

Thanks in advance,
Alex

Don't know if this will help but

Lug Size = 22 mm, Thread = 14 x 1.5

Stud Length=66mm, Stud Length underhead to extremity=58mm, Stud Length underhead to first usable thread = 45mm

As a very general rule, if there are threads showing outside the lug nut, you will be OK.

At California Speedway, they do make cars remove lug nut covers... But I have never had a problem with mine & I have the chrome capped lugs.
I am sure if you are running 13s they are not gonna be TOO anal. But if you are running sub 11's then they may start paying attention to detail.

That is actually my problem, my last run was 11.52@120mph with DA about 4700 feet. The elevation at this other drag strip is lower and most of people run at least 2 tenths faster compared to my local track. So, I'm pretty sure i will need at least a drive safety loop, which i don't currently have... Hell, I might get booted out... I know they are pretty anal from what I've heard....

Yea, I hear ya...the way our exhaust is, I doubt the driveshaft would hit the ground... but I am probably wrong :)

You can always sucker em in and tell em it runs 13s, then make sure you got all your cats in one basket and go for broke. Who cares if you get kicked out, as long as you get that 11.2x timeslip? :)

I use stock lugs without covers, no problems at tech. Shaft loops are cheap and easy install. Just hope they don't nail you for lack of cage............

This^^^ At Cecil they don't bitch too much about sub 11.5 but break 135mph and they have a different attitude

I used the GTO spares and Fbody rims. The stock lug nuts will work, even though they are a little big for the GTO wheels. I raced at Island in NJ and Cecil in MD.

If you run .2 faster than your last, your first problem is a roll bar, or lack thereof...

what part number do we use for arp wheel studs? are they the same as the GTO?
