TeamVodafone Holden driver Jamie Whincup was fastest on the opening day of practice ahead of the Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama, clocking a best lap of 2min 07.131sec to top the timesheets from James Courtney and Craig Lowndes.

Two-time reigning V8 Supercars champion Whincup clocked the fastest time of the day on his second lap in the third and final practice session to lead 2010 championship leader Courtney, who clocked 2min 07.359sec in his Jim Beam Racing Ford Falcon.

Whincup's teammate Lowndes was third fastest with a time of 2min 07.507sec ahead of
Ford Performance Racing driver Mark Winterbottom.

Greg Murphys (Lap of the Gods) Lap record from 2003 has finally been broken.
It happened today in practice by Lowndes in a VE.
Qualifying set to start in a few hours.

7 out of the top 10 qualifiers were VE's
The quickest of the Fords.....Winterbottom and Courtney, had some scary/ugly handling traits which was very unusual to see.
Saturday these top 10 battle it out to decide who gets pole position for Sundays race.

Nice to see the VE Commodore out there. And man, that's some serious camber on those front wheels! Up to 6 degrees in Qualifying trim where tyres don't have to last many laps.

There's only 1 race per year within 1000 miles of here.
I've been only about 3 times. You see and understand a heap more from the TV coverage than being there.

I can't wait to the coverage on Speedtv when they show it!! The poor quality clip on youtube doesn't look like team orders at all. (I haven't read they were given)

The guy who won was told by his team to slow down on the final corner to allow the 2nd car to catch up, for purposes of a 1-2 photo opportunity. Kind of team orders but it didn't change the outcome.

Yeah, I guess if there had been orders Whincup would have won. It was just the first picture I saw, the two 888 car's that close together at the end of 1000 k's....I hadn't read about Lowndes slowing down for a good 1=2 pic, the video looked like they were still gettin' it.

Here is the TV schedule for the V8 Supercars from SpeedTV.com. I caught the last hour of coverage Sunday from Bathurst and two things came to mind: 1. What header and exhaust setup would get me the exhaust note of those Holdens? :) and 2. I would have liked to have seen all 6 hours of coverage instead of 2 compressed hours.

I think we need a group buy for CP to record all the races and send them to us. I love the racing but hate watching on YouTube and so many of them are blocked now because of copyright law. :(
