You can all thank me for this flurry of new intakes. If I hadn't just bought a new RF radiator cover none of this would have happened. Yes, I can also make it rain by washing my car.

As for me, I'm holding tight on the intake for the moment until I figure out if I'll be going ProCharger or Nitrous.

I have a potentially stupid question related to the Vararam intake. I understand that the faster you go the more air it "rams" into your engine. Since dyno tuning is done with the car stationary, will the extra air coming in affect the engine or should the computer be able to adapt that quickly to the higher volume of air? It just seem like it could possibly lean the car out at the top of the 1/4 mile.

GRRRR8
11-28-2008, 09:13 AM
The vehicles will be tested with a high power fan in front to simulate air at speeds. when your car is tuned they will adjust the MAF calibration so it will operate like it is stock excepr MORE power. All CAIs need a tune to make the most power due to our MAF design.

99-LS1-SS
11-28-2008, 09:20 AM
I knew that about the tuning. I'm just wondering how much the fan can simulate.

GRRRR8
11-28-2008, 09:27 AM
The fan is an OK thing to use for base testing and dyno pulls, but my car will be using the new FAST wideband 02s and datalogger so it can be street/track tuned as well.

Its only for tuning and all comes as a kit. My buddy bought the set up for my Mach 1 I sold him so I could fine tune it and now I will put it on mine to do the same thing.

11-28-2008, 06:55 PM
Does Vararam tune cars?

GRRRR8
11-28-2008, 06:57 PM
Not to my knowledge, but I believe they will be doing the tune or logging for the tune on Jasens car.

It's A G8!
11-28-2008, 07:11 PM
So the tune is just to see how much hp can be had from their intake right?

GRRRR8
11-28-2008, 07:12 PM
Yes, because it will have to have the MAF tables re-mapped for max HP.

It's A G8!

I havent talked with them about that. I will more then likely start tuning my car from here on out primarily due to time limitations. I have access to the FAST dual wideband datalogger system so its no biggie

Sorry guys, I haven't given an update lately. I met with Patrick Friday with another prototype. He didn't leave it on my car, he just wanted to check the fit and he was going back to work on the scoop. He wants to make sure it gets the most hp possible so he's spending alot of time on this system. BTW, I did another 0-60 time with the prototype I have on my car now and clocked a 4.98!!!! Broke 5 seconds with only a prototype ram air that's still missing about half the hp. It was the first time that I was able to take off with out spinning the tires. Guess I'm getting the technique down.

NYG8GT
12-23-2008, 01:28 PM
So, this appears similar in design to NEP's OTR intake. I read that this is true "ram-air", is the NEP setup the same? Or is this better because its a closed off design and appears to have a scoop taking all the fresh air thats being directed up through nose in front of the radiator? Any idea on what kinda hp it'll make? I havent found much info from reading through the couple of threads dedicated to this particular product. Thanks :)

GRRRR8
12-23-2008, 01:47 PM
Vararam is a true ram air system. If you go to their site and look at the Vette systems it is very similiar to that.

NYG8GT
12-23-2008, 06:21 PM
Well I just hope they have some numbers out soon, Id really love a comparison between the Vararam and the NEP systems on a totally stock and untuned G8. Right now it looks like they'll be priced pretty evenly, so its all about whos gonna make the most power. Luckily Im not in the market for one till spring so there should be something to base my decision off of by then :)

stryker g8gt
12-29-2008, 11:53 AM
Yeah, as soon as it warms up, and stays that way. Hopefully they will have numbers and work the kinks out......Mean time I went to velocityair and bought some 4" mandrel pipe and fab up my own to the front corner.

What sucks is that I am currently running the NEP so that means I will probably have to retune for the Vararam if I end up with his. :nud:

GRRRR8
12-29-2008, 01:20 PM
That would be correct. Anytime a MAF is moved that close to the throttle body it will require the MAF tables to be adjusted.

r1owner
12-29-2008, 03:35 PM
So how does Kirk tune for that? Does he have a dyno to run a car on with this intake? How does he come up with the map?

He installs the Vararam, straps it on a dyno and logs some runs and begins tuning.
