A new age is dawning for law enforcement. During the past few weeks we've showed you the new models with law enforcement performance packages from Ford (http://jacksonville.com/opinion/blog/400585/bill-bortzfield/2010-09-02/pod-rods-another-choice-law-enforcement) and Dodge (http://jacksonville.com/opinion/blog/400585/bill-bortzfield/2010-08-25/pod-rods-2011-dodge-charger-revealed). This week it's Chevrolet's turn.

The next generation of Chevy Caprice patrol cars will hit the streets next spring. The next generation Caprice is basically a reworked Pontiac (http://autos.jacksonville.com/Autos?tp=AUTOS.JACKSONVILLE.COM&temp_type=detail&category=search&tl=2&v=14&dn=-1&ad_type=dealer+new&ad_type=dealer+used&ad_type=dealer+certified&ad_type=liner&make=Pontiac&model=&submit_button=Search) G8, which in turn was an overhauled Holden Commodore. Confused? Holden is GM's Australian brand and a source of some of the company's best rear-wheel drive components.
The Caprice PPV (Police Patrol Vehicle) will launch with GM's 6.0-liter V8 and packs 355 horsepower. In a news release (http://media.gm.com/content/media/us/en/news/news_detail.brand_gm.html/content/Pages/news/us/en/2010/Sept/0921_chevrolet_capriceppv1) GM claims the new Caprice is faster from zero to 60 and zero to 100 miles per hour and has a higher top speed than its competitors from Ford and Dodge.
