Thought it was pretty cool to watch. My son (Holden; 5 y/o) has a poster hanging in his room of Mark Skaife and another guy with a picture of a Commodore from a past season. While watching I went into his room to see if there were any familiar names. Mark's team won and his past teammate landed in 9th place, IIRC.

The rules are the limiting factor.
Each car is limited to 7500rpm and overall gear ratios are mandated for each track.
The next race at Bathurst sees them using the highest ratio diff allowed.
On the limiter in top gear they'll just touch 300kmh at Bathurst.

On shorter tighter tracks with lower overall gearing allowed they max out at 260 or 280kmh etc.

From 50secs onwards the speed is shown top left of screen here.

The lower numerical number diff ratios are the fastest.
3.15 at the next race = fastest you'll see them go.

Last race of the season happens tommorow. Still no Championship winner decided after todays race.
All 3 guys who could have sealed the crown, crashed at the same time on the same corner.....synchronized spinouts.
Only 1 of the 3 could get his car repaired in time to reach the finish line and score some points today.

OK the Championship is now finished and we have a winner.
Great season of racing.

Only one area I'd like looked into for the future. The championship rewards consistency and race finishers and maybe there's not enough reward for Pole Position and Race Winners.
eg:
The championship winner finished 25 out of 26 races, won 5 races and only got 1 pole position.
The guy who came second in the championship won 10 races and got 10 pole positions.....with that came greater excitement & risk.....and more DNF's

that is odd the points are for consistency. Not that is a bad thing, but winning races and the pole is what it is about!

that is odd the points are for consistency.
I didn't explain it very well.
Most races award 150 points for the winner, with a reduced amount of points right down to 15 points for finishing 30th.

As it stands now Driver A can score pole position (and get 0 points), win the race and get 150 points......then at the next race, crash out [while trying really hard and entertaining the audience with bravado] and not finish the race. Total A for 2 races = 150 pts.

For his 2 races Driver B can not even make the Top 10 in qualifying (and get 0 points), putt around staying out of trouble, take no risks, not entertain anyone and come 10th (78pts) in both races. Total B for 2 races = 156 pts.

There was a season a few years back where the winner of the Championship did not win a single race all year. I think they modified the points weighting to discourage that from happening.....IMO they didn't quite go far enough. Just awarding 10 or 20 points for a pole position would probably be enough to swing the balance more in favour of performance than reliability.

V8 SuperCar Racing kicks butt. I like it so much better than NASCAR. Even if I have to watch on my laptop it still is GRRRR8.

ok I see,but no points for the pole positon that sucks. I believe you are right that would be enough to balance things out. I do enjoy watching those cars race.

I hate the marking for the "softs". They look like they have "gangster white's" on!

I hate the marking for the "softs". They look like they have "gangster white's" on!

They said in the commentary that they've tried 3 or 4 different ways to make the softs distinguishable for TV, they're still experimenting with the markings. Next season there are even more races with sprint tyres.

One slightly new thing from yesterday I noticed.
All the cars I saw had newly designed concave side rocker panels with the exhaust tips not protruding past the door sill line of the car. They've been quite fast to make a design change/possible new rule to improve safety.

Reason:
The huge high speed rollover of the Bundy Red car at Bathurst was thought to be caused by the side exhaust tips from another car just nicking his rear tyre at the start of the race on the start grid. Then 2 weeks ago Garth Tander had a huge crash because his front tyre definately got punctured by an exhaust tip in a side by side contact.

We just saw Tander's crash today. Scary and Impressive.

The sister car (Davidson Car22) crash at the same corner was even more so.
