If the word 'new' in your lexicon equates to 'substantially and obviously different', then perhaps the upgraded edition of New Zealand's favourite large car will present a challenge.
The VE Commodore Series II, hitting NZ in mid-October, is too familiar to be that kind of new. In fact, the exterior changes are so modest you mightn't even readily identify it as the update.
So, to fully understand what the VE Series II delivers in a New Zealand context, you really need to accept a looser definition of 'new'. Think of it meaning 'much the same overall, but with detail improvements'. That works better for our market.
What became apparent to me on the strength of experiencing some of the new line on roads around Adelaide two days ago is that Series II is, to most intents, is not just home-grown but is also tailored more for its home market.
The Australian car called a world-beater when launched five years ago this time puts Australia first.
That's especially true of the biggest technical change, the one that Holden dedicated much of its time and the bulk of the programme's cost to.
