I'm trying to hardwire my 9500i using the Escort SmartCable. In my SS, I just plugged the male connector into an empty spot on the internal fusebox. I was thinking of doing the same on the G8. Can anyone think of a reason I shouldn't plug into F7 on the internal fusebox?

Also, I assume there will be a place for me to ground to underneath the dash on the driver's side. How do I remove the panel between the bottom dash panel? Just pull?

Yes on F7 and just give a slight tug on the panel. Sometimes the white fasteners have to be reattached. Very easy tio do. Make sure you look at how the side panel interlocks with the lower panel so you dont have to take it on and off.

Just to be sure we are talking about the same panel, it's the one with the headlight switch on it? Because it is taking a lot to get that one to give. Is there some secret to it? I had an 04 GTO and don't remember it being that tough

You have to take the lower off to get at that one. The lower and the side(towards the door) and the headlight panel interlock. Once you start to unsnap them you will see what I am talking about.

Dude, I am just going to run the ground to where the dash brace is on the drivers side or that welded tube looking thing behind the AC controls. I can't figure out that friggin panel and I don't feel like breakin this thing on my 2nd day. I'll post pics and a write-up when I get back from the holidays.

there is a empty postive and neg terminal behind the rearview mirror. why not just wire it up there?

The smartcord has an inline mute button that I have to run back underneath the dash anyway.

Where is that at exactly?

just turn the mirror all the way to the right and you should be able to see it by sticking your head up by the windshield. (When you grab it to turn it to the right it should be right above where you would place your thumb, on the backside.)

I saw that there was a sleuth of wires back there, but I wanted to know which ones specially. I tried looking a few places up online, but no luck. I also tried a voltmeter. I'm afraid that I'll end up tapping into a CAN line and my car will shut down anytime I go over 70 or something like that :)

I know a few people wired there's through there on the other board and I haven't heard any negative responses over it. Dunno. . .

Do a search on "stealth cord" both here and over on board. I know I saw it.
