Hey Charlie. CEL is on in the DGF's 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5 with the CVT automatic. Here is what i was able to find:

http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/infinitichris/2007-11-22_161004_NTB05-001.pdf

On page two of the TSB, it reads more like a silent recall with information on how the dealer gets reimbursed for doing the TSB repair.

Any idea how much $$$ this solenoid would cost, does she have a prayer of getting this paid for by the dealer?

The amount of work needed on her car is starting to pile up and I'm getting to the point that it may not be worth to keep tossing money into it. At 100K miles she needs this CEL addressed (just came on), CV joints, a battery, rotors, and tires on all four corners. Tires and battery is fine; my "piece of crap" America 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix didn't have these kind of problems at this age/mileage.

Looks like Nissan is going to cover 100% - treating it as silent recall. Pretty stunning silent recall to have some 10 cent solder connection fail in the transmission that brings the car to its knees. The local yokel dealer is pretty good, and she discovered she knows one of the employees (old schoolmate) when she went in to talk to them.

They will cover it for free from what I have seen. They will try to sell you something while your there, but it should be free.

Thanks Charlie. Nissan USA said go pound sand. My girlfriend worked her network and got a meeting with the owner of the local Nissan dealership. He appealed again to Nissan USA. The dealer picked up 1/3, Nissan USA picked up 1/3 and we paid 1/3. Swapped out her battery while it was there (leaking out of the top post). Our out of pocket was $212 before the battery. Turns out as suspected it was the crappy solder connection on the eye loop to the solenoid, not the solenoid itself. At least she got the pan dropped, tranny flushed, and basically a full inspection of the 1-2 solenoid while all this was done, so the CVT should be good until she gets rid of the car. I told her to be gentle, as a full past 100K miles (she did just a fluid exchange at 50K miles not a flush) can stir up other unknown issues.

Freakin' car, I thought Japan built them better. We've dropped close to $2K into the thing in the last 12 to 18 months between normal wear items (tires) and not so normal wear items.

Thanks again!

Thats not that bad I have spend that on my Yukon (in 2 months) for just tires and having the lift gate repaired :(
