August '10 Houston G8 Meet- South Cruise

Alright guys I know this took a while for me to post but the intended plans fell through so here we go. This cruise will be an approx. 90 mile drive. We will have some pit stops along the way starting at the Bass Pro at 288 and ending in Galveston's seawall where we will grab a bite to eat.

Here's the plan:
A. Meet up at Bass Pro on 288 and the Beltway @ 12 noon. Please park on the lot closer to 288 as the arrow marker indicates on the link when you zoom in.

B. Pit-Stop at Buc-ee's in Angleton as shown on link. Everyone re-group, fill-up if need be, drinks/snacks/restrooms.

C. Re-group in Surfside where marker indicates before we go onto Bluewater Hwy.

D. Toll Booth. Everyone MUST have $2.00 Cash for this toll. After you pay toll pull over to the side of the road and let everyone pay their toll and once everyone has gone through the booth we can roll.

E. Joe's Crab Shack. They have a good sized parking lot and a patio that overlooks the parking lot and the gulf.

I would say the cruise will take around 3 hours including stops. Bring your camera's and I would also recommend 2-way radios for faster communication.

+1 on the radios. this will really help get everyone through Lake Jackson, especially considering the construction areas. Also if the group can all get together before the San Luis bridge, the guy in front can collect all of the toll money, and pay for all. It's been my experience that this works best (the guy at the toll booth was REDICULOUSLY slow). Keeps the cars together going through Galveston.

I am on my 3rd set of radios. Over time, I have found that 1. the advertised distance is never far enough 2. rechargeable beats the hell out of replacing batteries 3. GMRS capability is a must, as FRS power is for toys.
And yes, I am currently Googleing the lyrics to "Convoy"...10-4 Rubber Duck.

I would wait until the last stop before the bridge to collect toll money. This will minimize the chance of anyone else getting between the G8 Convoy :)

Planning on having my wife shoot some vids using the iphone4 while we're driving. We'll see how that goes. The GoProHD looks sweeet.

They are very sweet.....Just don't know if I wanna spend $250+ on one right now......Maybe I'll just by a winshield mount for my phone and use it. It records in 720p just like the iphone....

I don't think we'll run across the entity that licenses such things so I doubt we'll bother anyone of importance. All the big boys have their own higher frequency usually digital so we wouldn't even hear them.

I've had my truck for almost 6 years and driving the truck is nothing like driving the G8...dont get me wrong I love my truck but it's defenitely more fun driving the G8...but if that feeling is greater than having the G8 then go for it...just dont get jealous when all of us fly by you :bleh:
