I like, but I wonder how it would fit with my backup cam mounted on the upper license plate bracket? I would probably have to drill a new hole for the cable.

A little pricey but I think it looks nice. Might be interested.

Is it chrome plated plastic or metal?

Could you maybe take one of the yellow clips out (they're removeable) and run your cable through the now vacant hole?

A lot of people are painting them themselves. Much cheaper.
I actually found a set on Flea-Bay for 35.00 bucks already painted PBM. When I received them they were brand new. The body shop wanted 75.00 bucks to paint them. I figured just to keep my white ones in case I want to switch back to stock look.

Thanks. Didn't find any scoops for sale directly, but found several PBM G8s being parted out. Sent some e-mails. Unbelievable number of wrecked G8s being dissected on eBay including a White Hot GXP.

Look at the 3rd,4th & 5th pics at the top of this thread.
The red rectangles are 3M tape which sticks to the flat horizontal surface above your rear licence plate.
The rectangular holes in the chrome strip are for your license plate lamps to shine thru.
You can look at your car above the license plate and see the holes for the yellow clips.......there's one central and one each side maybe an inch outboard of each license plate lamp.
The holes will currently have a plug or bung in them to blank them off.

Hey Paul, could you get me a close up pick of what it looks like when the trunk is open. Specifically the underside of the trim. Reason is for my current led strip that I'm running I need to see if there's enough room, and if it would look good on the underside of the trim. I'm currently using two led strips in place of the stock license plate bulbs. Thanks for your help Paul.

Thanks I greatly appreciate that. When I put my led plate lights on I ran the wiring through them. I push the tabs out from the inside of the trunk lid. It's not to hard to do, but you do have to remove the trunk lid liner.

Almost.
I can get the Redline trunk trim, Camera with bracket, Replacement tail lamp & camera combined harness....it comes back to an 8 pin connector which terminates near your trunk hinge.
Only problem is your car body harness in a G8 has no provision to plug into the new larger 8 pin connector, nor does it have the wires travelling back to that point for a camera that was never planned for.

There's also a small issue in the wiring diagram calls the camera image shielding wire a "bare" wire and the camera ground a "black" wire. The actual harness has 2 black wires coming from the camera. I can't tell which is which.

And you mention "shielding"? I've read a few rear camera threads reporting interference showing in the video. Probably not an issue with this setup.

Exactly.....the "shielding" wire is there to prevent interference, which allows sharper images.
There was another word used instead of "shielding" but I can't think of it right now.

Edit ..... another document calls it the "Camera Drain Wire"

Paul, I don't suppose you could get the female half of the connector for the replacement combined harness, and some pins, could you? Also, how much would just the harness cost? Does the rubber boot come with it or do you have to snake the harness through the one you have? I'm considering using this to consolidate the wiring of my existing camera.

Paul, using your camera is possible. It would be best to keep the G8 backup lamps harness and just use the new harness shown above for the camera wiring. So at the female end of the grey harness you plug in one of these:

Yazaki 7282-1080 (attach your own wiring)
http://i582.photobucket.com/albums/ss266/blackgt5/7282-1080.jpg

You should only have five wires from this point:
Pink/blue - Ignition
Light green - reverse signal
Black - ground
Pink - video +
blue - video -

Make your connections for the above as needed and you are done!

There is a black - ground coming from the camera & another wire which is also black but referred to as "bare" on the schematic. This "bare" wire is the video image shielding wire.
So I count 6 camera function wires.

EIGHT.

The 2 black with question marks are both from the camera. One is Ground and One is the shielding wire (indicated BARE on the schematic). I can't decide which of the 2 is the shielding wire.

The easiest way to check is with a continuity tester. The tricky part is trying to isolate the wires to check them.

Do you know where someone could get one of these connectors?

You can try requesting a sample from Yazaki. You will also need the terminals to connect the wires:

7114-4020 for 22-20 AWG
7114-4021 for 20-16 AWG

Not sure what size wire is used on the factory harness in CP's pics.

Not without hacking up the cover. There is barely enough room for the license plate with either the Calais or Redline trim. I had a clear plate cover that I had to remove when I first put the Calais trim on because it would not fit.

Crazy Paul has retired. You could try the other seller JHP

I purchased this 7 years ago from CP and I have to say it dresses the back up nice.

They do look nice. I bought one as well. I can tell you that every G8 meet that I have been to. I had the only one.
Good Luck on your search
