So I've faced the same issue many of us have. How do you mount a subwoofer in the trunk so that it doesn't slide around and/or how do you mount a subwoofer in the trunk so that it can be quickly removed.

Today I built a false floor for my G8 for $45 - and of that $17 were costs for tools, screws and glue that I now have a lifetime supply of. Here is what you need.

1) 38" x 39" 1/2" plywood - I got a piece of scrap 4' X 4' plywood at Home Depot for $4.10

2) Indoor/outdoor carpet, black - I didn't get the Astroturf stuff but nice carpet. Home Depot sells it for 75 cents a square foot. It is sold in a 6' strip, so you just need a 4' x 6' piece. I got a 5' x 6' piece because I wanted to make sure I had a chance to redo a cut if I got it wrong.

3) I strongly suggest a dedicated carpet knife. The edges of blades are rounded, gives a cleaner cut than a traditional razor blade or razor knife.

4) Spray adhesive. I used a 3M medium duty adhesive.

INSTRUCTIONS

1) Cut your plywood so that it is 38" wide and 39" deep. Thirty-eight inches will clear the lip of the trunk opening with maybe 1/8" of a spare. The 39" deep will give you a board that goes almost to the rear of the trunk to the front of it. Unless you subwoofer box is very heavy, it's not going anywhere.

2) Use the spare tire cover as a template to cut your carpet. Turn your carpet upside down so that the backing is facing upward. Turn the spare tire cover of your G8 upside down so that the bottom is facing upward. Line up the straight edge of your stock rear spare tire cover on your G8 with a straight edge on the carpet. With the carpet knife CAREFULLY cut along the edge to create a new piece of carpet that matches the stock piece.

3) After you've cut the carpet place the stock spare tire cover back in the trunk. Then check for fitment of your cut carpet. I nailed it.

3) Take your board and make sure it is dry and clean. Spray your adhesive on the board according to instructions. When you line up the carpet to mount on the board, mount it so that there is about a half-inch overlap from the rear of the board to the rear of the trunk - so that the board is assured to not be exposed. My subwoofer is mounted on the left hand side, so I biased the board (as your trunk is 45" wide, the lip is 38" wide) toward the driver side. Once the carpet is affixed to the board, slide it into your trunk, again checking fitment.

4) For mounting your subwoofer, you now have a number of options. In my case I did the mounting outside of the trunk (I have a small 10" sub with amp) which it made it a lot easier. I then was able to slide the whole thing in. You can screw mount, velcro, etc.

I went out for a drive, nothing moved around but I can't say that if I did violent driving it won't shift around a little bit, but the most it can move is about 1/2" front to rear -- maybe a couple of inches left to right.

Sorry no pics of the finished product - car show tomorrow and was cleaning the car in preparation. With that said, what I did looks 100% factory, you would have no idea the car has a false floor in it.

Sorry about the bits of grass in the pic below - it's been cleaned up now!
