View Full Version : U.S. National G8 Meet Poll (NEW)

06-18-2010, 06:26 AM
OK all, I'm starting this new poll because we are two months away from this happening and need to have a more accurate idea of how many peeps are planning on coming.
PLEASE "vote."
I left off the "NO" and "doubt it" because it's pretty obvious that if you're NOT coming then you won't vote at all...
I think it goes without saying but I'll say it anyway... If you ARE coming, please book your room.
Thanks,
Chris

It's not looking good for me making this trip (50/50) and I'm really upset about it. I think it's just too far to drive both ways and although I have been given the use of an enclosed car hauler for the G8, I have nothing viable to tow it with...I'm on the fence.

Chris,
We'll be sunning and funning in Myrtle Beach that week so we won't be able to attend. Hopefully next year's meet will be closer to us?
I will also be in Carlisle this coming weekend for those close enough to make the haul!

Hey come on! I will be driving all the way out to Norwalk 2 weeks before (see you there!), and then coming to the G8 Meet! It's only fair if you return the favor, by making the longer trip after your "hop-skip-and-a-jump" to Pontiac Nats, LOL!

Im in. 1200 miles one way, no excuses guys! :) I booked the room Thursday to Sunday. The way I figure it, if it is a good turn out then great. If not, so what. There are so few G8's here in Jax FL (max that we have had in a meet locally was 5 and that was only once!) so even if 25 make it I will be happy! I have been itching for a road trip forever. The first year is always a tough one for getting the ball rolling. Once started, the second and later years should be awesome. Thanks for getting this started.

also the name tags will help people identify one another

I already planned to ask the hotel for a space near the check-in desk to handle registration. Nametags are an awesome idea, but I don't have any cost effective ideas to get them. The little stick-on "Hi my name is:" wouldn't quite cut it. We need to have a way to identify other G8 Meet Attendees though. I am open to suggestions and solutions (especially those that cost little to nothing).

07-29-2010, 09:15 AM

I was told by my contact at the hotel that they are putting us all in the same tower, and that they will try to keep the rooms together if possible. Since the smoking/non-smoking and single and double bed rooms aren't all together that will force us to have clusters here and there.
bracketracer
07-29-2010, 02:34 PM
Hey Chris, don't worry too much. I know that there will be alot more than 14 people coming. I am convoying down with at least 3 or 4 other cars myself. There were 11 hotel rooms already reserved the last update I got, and not all participants are staying at the host hotel (due to pets, price, etc). Many people were waiting until now, or even a little later, to reserve to see how things pan out. The event is now past the point of no return, so it IS HAPPENING. We can't get back the $500 hotel deposit, or $744 insurance policy premium, if it doesn't happen, so the show will go on even if it is 4 of us riding out a hurricane, LOL!

OK you guys know White Castle started in Chicago right? You'll drive through towns on the way that have them. Some how we being 3 hours from Chicago never have gotten one.
He have Panera Bread and their bagels aren't bad.
Getting close!
Taking the trip on the cruise route this Saturday to make sure there's no construction.
Not sure what the wife is doing yet. She'll be 8 months pregnant at that time... Standing around IS NOT high on her priority list and if she rides on the cruise we'll be stopping to pee! lol

If you don't take 80 then you're lost! lol
I-80 all the way till you get to the 280/74 interchange where you'll want to go straight onto 280/74. Drive a while until you see the exit for Davenport/Moline Exit 5A (I74) and take it into IA. When you cross the bridge look to your right... You'll see the Isle right on the river. Get off on the first exit and turn right and then down the street and turn right on George Thuenen Dr which will take you to the Hotel.
Keep in mind folks that the river here in the Quad Cities runs East to West, NOT North to South. It messes people up because they assume down river is South and up river is North.

If you don't take 80 then you're lost! lol
I-80 all the way till you get to the 280/74 interchange where you'll want to go straight onto 280/74.
Keep in mind folks that the river here in the Quad Cities runs East to West, NOT North to South. It messes people up because they assume down river is South and up river is North.
If you go too far on I80.... you will run into the Red-Mississippi River that runs South to North not West to East....??????????????????

The river runs South West where 80 is, but come down to the Quad Cities (Moline IL, Rock Island IL, Bettendorf IA, and Davenport IA and it runs East to West.

Ok so I rode the cruise route and found a new road which will turn us around and head us back toward home. Glad I rode it though. There was a road closed which isn't an issue. It adds a few minutes to the drive but no biggie. Overall it was a GREAT ride and a great day. It'll take a few hours to complete the drive and more if we stop for pictures and such.

NO! Problem is, is the UNKNOWN. Being the first year, there are a TON of unknowns. Any place that could seat us all would want prior knowledge of us coming and that's impossible. So we can stop off at a bar in Albany which has a ton of parking and is RIGHT on the river, with a large deck, or you can bring a snack.
This is why I'd like to leave a bit earlier and then have a late dinner at the boat or somewhere else in town. We could always hit the Sonic or something in town.

Poopy's is a biker bar near Savannah. I'd guess that could accommodate us depending on size of group. We are not going to be able to order as a group anywhere, so if we were a bunch of smaller parties it might work to drop in. I have a saying, if things are not up to your standards, lower your standards, lol!
*This is just an idea and yeah, there are probably several flaws.
Edit: I like the idea of going early enough we can eat in Bettendorf after the cruise. That said, Poopy's could still be a nice stop for a snack if necessary.

The bridge is open going over which is why I planned to take IA back. The reason for going to Hanover is for the road I have routed. It's a fun twisty quick road that heads out. I've said it before... I'm ok with shortening it. I enjoy the trip on my bike and it makes it easy for a ton of cars to turn around... lol

I spoke to my contact at Isle of Capri today. They will be providing a Registration Table in the lobby of the South Tower, and a sign in the North Tower to direct people to the right place. They are also giving us the entire upper level of their parking ramp for the Saturday car show. Apparently, it is conveniently located next to the hotel connected by walkway, and this will provide for a safer environment for spectators to walk around. They are looking forward to having us, and I am really looking forward to getting there and getting started! A number of people have done alot of work to make this a fun trip for everyone, and we all want to see our hard work result in a great time. Weather forecasts keep changing, but it looks like clear sailing for Saturday, and only a 40% chance of thunderstorms on Friday. That means a 60% chance they will miss us! I am confident that we will get in as much as Mother Nature allows! Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Can't get to Isle until about 7 PM Fri.... What's the best way to get to Cordova Dragway from the Isle, considering the issues with I-80 bridge????
You guys are so worried about gas prices..... Hell, Shredmo is worried about "Beer Prices"!!!

Best way FROM the Isle is to follow my cruise directions that were posted up. You'll literally drive RIGHT by it. I-80 bridge and exit is open. Take first exit in IL go to stop sign turn right and drive until you see the track. If you miss it, you're blind!

Definitely not me, but I'm not racing so....

OK guys, I thought some of you may want to use a car wash... Here's the best one I've found in town. It's a full service wash and from what I've been told, it's pretty damn good.

I know I'll have a little business for them. My 3yr old dinged my back door slightly, and I wanna fix it :(

Oh come on man, at least come down and hang out for a while. I just got home and had a blast, met some faces behind the screen names, these guys came in from New York, Florida New Orleans and you won't drive 10 blocks in case you get your car dirty? wah wah. J/K.
seriously, registration opens at 11, i'm going back up at 9:30 or 10 with the car to hang out and bench race.
BTW all you guys who didn't make it for one reason or another or wimped out, you're gonna regret it.

If it's a passing rain I'll leave it home. Looks like 30% chance today with a 60% chance tonight. My car's a DD so it gets dirty all the time. Just thought it'd be nice to keep it clean for tomorrow.

[QUOTE=4GASEM;286876]Who's car's running and who's isn't...??? lol j/k
Touche, well played sir. Well in a few minutes i'm leaving to pull my car that doesn't run up to the show with my truck that does, that is unless i see a cloud then i'll have to pull over and take shelter. Ha ha. See you there .
It's killing me that I wasn't able to make it to this, but I simply couldn't afford it. I would have had to take off work 3 or 4 days (and I don't get PTO), and will all other expenses it would have cost me well over a grand to be able to attend. If this would have happened last year, I would be there without a doubt. But business has been bad, and we've had to cut back on everything. I really didn't know until just a couple of weeks ago if I would be able to make it or not. I was hoping business would pick up a little and I've have some extra money to make this happen, but it didn't.
I really hope you guys have a great time, and I can't wait to see pictures. Hopefully it's a great success and we're able to have another one soon. I'm continuing to follow all of these threads to see what's happening, so keep them updated!

A side note, if it is still light out after the cruise, my buddy informed me there is a Marina bar on the Mississippi that is owned by the casino. It is just south of the parking ramp. He says that it is pretty cool. Closes at sunset unfortunately.

Well, had a minor issue on the cruise, got a flat, I had a 18" spare, but it was a front, so an 18 won't clear the Brembos. Big thanks to Bad Karma and whoever gave me a jack to borrow, and all the STL guys for helping and being my "pitcrew" Swapped a rear GXP wheel to the front and put a GT 18 on the rear for now.
