View Full Version : Connecting RCA Cables To Rear Aux Input

Yes, I did a search. I've dug around on the Crutchfield site also.
I plan to send my stereo out for the GTOShiftLight VIM kit when I'm on vaca later in the summer, but I'm looking for an alternative that is fast and cheap so I can hook RCA connectors, stereo and video to the AUX input on the stock head unit. Ya, I get that over 3 or 4 MPH the screen will display (REAR AUX) and I get audio only. For this application I'm fine with that (connecting my MP3 player direct to the REAR AUX instead of the front panel). I was curious what I could buy off the shelf and what people have paid.
Thanks!
Thanks in advance!

Thanks aware of this solution but don't have time time/energy to DIY. Is there nothing in the real world I could just buy?

I ordered the parts to do this, but haven't made the cables yet. I don't think I will be spending the $$ for the VIM, so they are not much use to me. If you want the parts to make a set of cables, you can have them. Let me know....

Doing it yourself is really the only way to go. It takes very little skill or time.

I made mine using the free parts from Tyco and it only took me about 20mins.
Would have been faster if my crimper/stripper wasnt a pos. Ended up using a needle nose pliers and a knife to get it done on the last wire

I have a set of cables ready to ship. They are about 2' - 2.5' long with male, color correct, composite RCA ends. I am asking $40 and that includes shipping USPS Priority Mail.
Let me know if you are interested.

JHP also sells the cables, but you know how most people on this board feel about them... :/

If you do it yourself they only cost around $5 in the RCA cables off ebay or from RS

In short. No. This is for Audio/Video in to display on the screen, like an ipod or DVD player. Not speaker addition.

I have a 10" amplified Bazooka in my trunk. The answer is no -- as noted by schwartz this is for input not output.
Now, installing a Bazooka amplified subwoofer, I don't think there is an easier car on the planet to do this in than the G8. You'll connect to the battery in the trunk, you plug right into the amplifier for the signal inputs, which is right next to the battery (told you this is crazy easy). Mounting is another issue. Because the way the trunk floor is designed, there is no putting a mounting board under the carpet and hard mounting that way. If you screw into the floor, you can't access the spare tire/inflator kit, depending on how equipped. I made a false floor for my G8. I got a 38" wide by 39" deep piece of 1/2" plywood, use the black indoor/outdoor carpet from Home Depot @ 75 cents a square foot. I mounted the mounting hardware to the Bazooka tube to the false floor. I used 3/4" wood screws to hold it in place, and I had to trim off just a bit of the tips that came through the other side (heavy duty wire cutters or a Dremel will do the job perfectly). I can unplug and remove the subwoofer in about a minute, including the false floor for racing or if I need more room. I set the crossover to its lowest setting and the amp level to its highest level. You'll still need to set the bass to +6, it is so damn weak in the G8 stock. The fill is really nice in the cabin - but like all Bazooka tubes, the bass is a bit muddy. Maybe one day I'll do something better, but the speakers all around in the G8 are craptastic, so a good subwoofer will only highlight how horrible the front fill really is.
I did not do the wiring of the amp. The wiring job I farmed out because I wasn't feeling brave enough to do it on the brand new car, and the knowledge base didn't exist here on doing all these mods 16 months ago. I now kick myself for farming it out because it is truly, super easy to do. Good luck!

I got mine from DJCHUBBS member on here who was selling them for $25 but they didn't have the clips like shown above. I got tyco to ship me some and the connected his cables to them.
