View Full Version : Clueless G8 Owner

Yesterday I was standing outside a Cracker Barrel restaurant waiting for a friend and into the parking lot rolls in a Liquid Red G8 GT. The guy parks and he and his wife get out and start walking to wards the entrance. I get his attention by asking him how he likes his G8 and he says it's the fastest car he's ever owned and loves it. I tell him that I also own a G8 and point in the direction where it's parked.
I ask him what year his car is and he responds it's a 2009 of course, that's the only year they were made. I tried to correct him by telling him that there's also 2008 cars, but he didn't believe me.
He also told me how he would have liked to have bought an "EXP", but they didn't have one on the lot where he bought his car. Instead of correcting him, I told him I could not afford the extra $10K for a "GXP", but it's a nice car for sure. He looked at me funny and said the "EXP" was but $4K more than the GT.
I decided to end the conversation at that point and tell him it was good to meet him.

Wow ....yea that's clueless lol. I still lose count with talking to owners who say they love the "LS2 and 400hp" haha. I need to look into this $4k "EXP" option lol

Wonder if he knew they were made in Australia? Doubtful.
It's amazing how clueless people are these days.

I've also had the reverse happen to me as well! About a year ago I was at Costco and was walking to my car and this guy introduces himself and tells me that my car is really a Commodore made by Holden. I responded that I'd already knew that, but was surprised he knew it as well. He'd been to Australia for a number of weeks and had driven a Commodore and just could not believe what a great car it was and how he was so pleased that they brought this car over to the United States.

See now you're getting into the "owner only knowledge" about Australia. In fact this past wkend I jokingly tried to enter car in the Import class (knowing they wouldn't allow it) to which they naturally said "That's a domestic car" and proceeded to laugh like I was an idiot. So I learned them all on the fact it was built in Aus and shipped on boat (which I have tracking emails saved still) to San Diego then on train to me fully assembled. All the states did was assist in purchase/delivery. They had no idea and most were actually wowed by it with that "Oh really?!" Look lol.

that's pretty funny...
Its okay to not know the history and details of the car's various manufacturing details, but to be wrong, and then try to correct someone else, when you obviously have little knowledge on the matter is just funny.
I hate people to pretend to know more than you, when they don't. If you can't admit you are wrong, at least sit in silence..

Don't you guys know the EXP stands for extended performance? It's a rare 2009 only model that very few know about, it has a little more power than a GT but not quite as much as a GXP. :secret:

I tried to tell this guy that there were 2008 G8s! But he wasn't having any part of it, they only made 2009 G8s. Once I realized he was right and I was wrong it became just amusing and I didn't try to correct him anymore.

Similar thing happened to me while waiting to get my car washed. A guy pulls up in a GXP and I start talking to him about how he likes his car. I ask him if it's a manual or auto and he says "well it's both." I assume he's referring to the manumatic shift so no big deal. I tell him I have a GT with the same transmission and he's like ok. Later when my car pulls up he asks does that have a V8 as well. I think this guy thought there was only one version of the G8 and he owned it.

Never ever argue with a moron, they just bring you down to their level and beat you up with experience. Good call on letting him rule in his own little bubble.

That is funny..Had a few things like this..Few guys tell me at the track it was a gto after i tell them its a G8..I was like no a G8..They insisted it was a 4 door GTO, same engine, everything..I was like whatever..

I was going to mention using VIN as proof of production outside the US, but I doubt anyone who's not into cars even know what a VIN is, so never mind. When I helped my dad buy his RAV4, I went and researched VINs to see where the RAV4 they were giving us was going to come from. In this case, Canada, even though they promised Japan, so they just knocked the price even lower.
But yeah I also still get plenty of GTO's, BMW's, and your car is American because it's Pontiac, calls.

Lack of 7" fart cannon exhaust tip was probably the dead giveaway.

Guys, most car owners aren't "car guys".
How many times have you talked to someone at the track and thought to yourself, "this guy has no fucking clue how a car even works".
It's not surprising that many G8 owners are stupid.

They aren't car guys. They're wannabees.
They are the same as the guys that hang out in gunshops and tell you about "da 50 cailbur sniper rifle" they carried in "Desert Shield". How they tore the arm off of a "Haji" just by shooting past him. Or how they have taught themselves the art of drawing a pistol from concealment. How they can get an accurate shot off in less then a half a second.
Some of these goofs are the same guys...
LMAO! How'd I get dragged into this? By the way, I'm creating a new forum, and all you haters are welcome....

This also reminds me of the guy that works in our motorpool that has the Challenger R/T. He said he has heads/cam/LTs/full exhuast. Car sounds completely stock. Then he said he wanted to go to track with us thought he could out run me. On teh way out to teh track he tried racing a pretty much stock SRT4 and got smoked. So we get to track and he ran a 14.2 not spinning..I was like ya ok and you have what in it again. he still swears it has all above and is about to stroke it.

Why can't we all just get along? Did someone say that a long time ago in LA?
Today most people are into their I Phones and music down loads and have no clue about anything.
I read as much as I can to learn about my Holden G8 GT opps Pontiac which is no longer on my truck lid.
