View Full Version : Can't Find Thread on using Rotofab Tube with Maggie?

Had my maggie installed today at VMS and everything looks perfect...one thing I was disappointed with is that they didn't use my rotofab CAI inlet tube instead of the standard maggie tube. I am pretty sure there was some discussionon here from others about measured dyno gains by using the Rotofab tube and just flipping it around....can someone direct me to this thread?
I am assuming to do this and get any measurable gains, it will need to be dyno tuned again....maybe I will just wait until another bigger mod (cam, smaller pulley, etc.).

I had to use the Maggie tube with the rotofab box in order to keep it from rubbing my hood liner. If you take out the hood liner I'm sure the rotofab tube would work just fine........ Or maybe you don't care if it rubs, in which case just put it on.

From RotoFab, via Maryland Speed:

The customer will sand throttle body side of supplied Magnuson air tube to achieve proper fit [with the RotoFab]. A few of our (RotoFab) customers use our tube upside down; however the maggie tube will make better power.

Would it not need to be retuned in swapping from the maggie tube to the rotofab piece?

Thats horse shit. the maggie tube isnt going to make any more power. The Full Rotofab system will work when you take the time to make it fit. I'll Find a picture..

It just touches the hood cover/blanket

Norm, you can get it a little further down and out of the way if you replace the accordian hose with a hump hose.

Yeah, it looks like the difference between the two photos is that one has the accordian hose at the TB end and the other guy has it at the filter end. Did either of you ever have the maggie tube on there originally? If so, did you dyno before/after or did it require retuning to swap?

I did the install on the pics I posted. The accordion piece was only used till the other connectors came in. We dynoed one of the cars w the full Maggie set-up vs the Rotofab and saw a 6whp difference

Awesome, thanks....did the 6hp gain involve any change to the tune or just a straight swap?

No tuning needed. Despite what a lot of people claim or have been told, tuning is pretty much a waste on small changes.

If you remove the hood liner, the Roto-Fab tube will fit without rubbing. You just have to be careful to adjust it so that it will fit properly between the hood and pulley.

It barely touches the liner. just enough to polish the spot over time. barely a mark on the liner. Changing it is low on the list because every time I change the intake I have to re-tune the idle air with my cam it seems.

Vector's dyno day is coming up in a couple weeks so maybe I'll dyno with it as is (maggie tube) and then do a pull with the rotofab tube to get a direct comparison and re-confirm what others have stated.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get the coupling to replace the accordian piece? Besides fitting better, it looks a lot cleaner too.

I run a speed shop in my spare time and have a vendor that sells them. The easiest to get, I would assume, would be a Vibrant Performance piece

Thanks for all your help. I think I am going to order the coupler from Vibrant and swap over to the rotofab tube and give it a try.

What's the part number of the coupler from Vibrant Performance? Is this the right website? http://vibrantperformance.com/
