I'm looking at going with a stroker kit w/cam and was interested in knowing if the extra money it would cost to go with the 419ci over a 404ci stroker would be worth it. Also, I have read about the ls3 based 418ci and wanted to know how it differed from the 419ci (besides the 1ci)...I just felt that one coming. The cam will be blower friendly for future mod

I guess this is a tougher question than I thought.

I have seen people go to 408 in other cars but not the 404 or 418/9. I would say its going to depend on how much your boring and how thin the walls will be. Is this going to be a DD?

I definitely plan on keeping it a DD. The 419 would be the same used for the Camaro that ran 10.44's. I'm just wondering how much more it would cost to go that route compared to the smaller displacement. And after looking farther into it....looks like the difference of the 418 and 419 could be that one is a shortblock while the other is a longblock.

Also what kind of horsepower/torque gains would be made....

The 415/416 is popular for LS3s because it uses the stock bore of the LS3 block with a 4" crank.

The 404 uses the LS2 stock bore with a 4" crank. The L76 has been reported to have a slightly smaller bore than the LS2, but I understand it's close enough that the L76 can be honed to the correct size.

PM Steve, he had a 404 kit installed in his L76 block.

Figure, everything else being equal, you will gain about 1hp per cubic inch.

Thanks George. I was thinking that the 419 route meant that I would have to get a LS3 block that will be bored and stroked and that is why I was wondering how much more that would cost compared to just doing my stock L76. I will give Steve a PM and see what his thoughts are.
