I was going to call BS if they wouldn't have had the ZR1 on that list.

I don't consider a corvette of any kind a "muscle" car like Camaro's Cuda's Mustangs GTO's and Buicks of old. It's a sports car in my eyes. I don't even think the new Camaro should be in it, but I didn't make the list...

(Here comes the firestorm!)
I say get rid of all the old stuff! Do you honestly remember how those things handled right off the showroom floor? Like a pig in highheels trying to make it out a curvy road on those great bias-ply tires. Calm down now. Calm down and take a chill pill. Think about it: you're driving one of the truly great ones right now, 4 doors and all. Look at the advancements in both performance and comfort. Ease on down the road and run in the mid thirteens! Wow! THESE are the days. Remember them well; they won't be here for long. JMO

I agree. Family four door sedan, front engine, rear drive, pushrod v8 that responds very well to mild mods and get's downright gnarly when you crack open the engine. No complaints here, just more project work to be done!

1970 Buick GS Stage 1?

1969 Camaro ZL1?

Boss 429 Stang?

70' Chevell LS6?

Hemi Cuda?

I don't agree with that list at all.

Exactly! Those are muscle cars. A Stage 1 just went for 134K on Mechum Auto Auction last week.

I thought about those exact same cars minus the ZL1, and Mach instead of Boss...but Boss is better I agree.

To me, the definition of a "musclecar" is an mid-size/intermediate platform with a big motor. Not a sports car like the Corvette or AMX. Not a Pony car like a Mustang, Camaro, Firebird, Javelin, Barrauda, Challenger and so on. Musclecars are a bit larger than that...GTO, Chevelle, Charger, Road Runner, Torino, GS, etc.

I do not think the definition should exclude newer cars, like the G8 GT/GXP, new Charger RT/SRT8 or 300C/SRT8. Maybe even the Taurus SHO. Also would include the Mercury Marauder and 94-96 Impala SS.

My list would be:
1969 GTO Judge (my favorite)
1964 GTO (started the craze, even though some others pioneered the concept earlier)
1969 Charger (The General Lee of course)
1969 Yenko Chevelle
1970 AMC Machine
1970 Superbird
1964 Fairlane Thunderbolt

and a few newer models:
2008 Charger SRT8 Superbee in B5 Blue Pearl
1996 Impala SS (How can you not have Darth Vader's car on this list?)
2004 Marauder
1987 GNX

and of course, 2009 G8 GXP, specifically the one in my garage.

You are living in the golden age of muscle cars now.

Power everything. A/C, great brakes, tires, great ride. Quiet, but will still run 12s with minor work.

A 60s muscle car is like fine art. Looks nice on the wall.

The GNX is Vader's car. There was a magazine, in mid to late '86, that had the GNX on the cover with the line "Darth Vader, your car is ready"...

:worthy:The list really could never be completed since there has been so many fast cars a list could never really satisfy due to generation gap in what we grew up with defined as muscle cars.

George but it best 60s cars are like art now days.

I would love to have me one of those GNXs :worthy: Have seen them go over 100,000K

Yeah it's way too subjective to list the best 'muscle cars' when the term isn't really defined. Everyone has a different idea of what that means. Besides that, there's no way to measure it so they always end up just being the authors favorite cars.

Personally I agree that the newer cars don't belong on a muscle car list. To me, a muscle car IS the old cars that handle like crap, have no luxury ect, and are all about going fast in a straight line - ie. muscle above all else - and look good doing it. There's a certain charm in cars that are brutal and raw like that though. On the other hand, our 2 ton family sedan would probably put most 60's era's sports cars to shame in the twisties and walk most of the muscle cars of the era as well. The times they are a-changin.

They must have used it more than once. I remember the quote as "Lord Vader, your chariot has arrived" in the context of the 1994, black only Impala SS. IIRC, Car Craft.

My brother had the 69 Dodge SuperBee, big ass car that would absolutely fly......crusing 170 down the highway, awesome ride.
I would be trying to catch up in my Olds 442..... lol, but I loved that car. Champion Orange, White stripes.

There are a bunch of muscle cars that could make a list, but this was some else's list........ ha

May 87 Car and Driver had a line at the top of the cover that said "Buick GNX Darth Vader, Your car is ready," but the car was not pictured.

But for the 94 Impala, Chevy actually got permission to use "Lord Vader" is its ads: http://www.streetfire.net/photo/chevy-impala-ss-lord-vader_1773932.htm

There is a guy that brings a GNX (Serial #050) to my hometown's cruise night. I think it has something like 20K on the ODO. Looks like it's right off the showroom floor. He also has a Nissan GT-R and a Bentley Continental GT... and a real easy smile. One of the nicest individuals I've had the pleasure of chatting wth.
