View Full Version : Camaro ss brakes compatible with ss brake lines-Brake swap as well(thanks andy)

I just ordered all my parts necessary for the swap from hennessey performance.
I also want to install the stainless steel brake lines on the g8 as well, but im unsure if they will bolt up to the camaro calipers.
Im assuming they will because our stock lines due, im just replacing them with stainless steel braided lines.
Am i correct in my thinking?
Rear brakes will be here monday. i will order the fronts next week. and figure out spacers when they arrive. longer wheel studs have been ordered(Thanks to crazy paul) and will be here in 10 days.
I will also keep updates in this post.
Im getting them powdercoated red and debating on if i should put brembo stickers on them or leave them red?

If you are going to spend the money to have them powdercoated, I'd definitely put Brembo stickers on them. It will make them look like they came from the factory, rather than painted yourself.

I believe the front G8 SS lines will bolt up to the front Camaro Brembos as they already bolt up to the GXP Brembos. I don't think the rear G8 SS lines will connect up to the rear Camaro Brembos though as the calipers are different obviously. But I could be wrong on that one.

but, according to andy, who did the full swap, the rear stock g8 lines bolted up, so why wouldnt the ss lines? i just want to make sure, ive done many brake swaps before, but never changing out lines and bleeding whole systems.

I would also assume they would work since the kit works for both the GT and GXP, and since the rear Camaro caliper works with the stock GT lines, the ss lines should work with either rear caliper.

I stand corrected then. Good to know the rears use the same line.

I did use the stock G8 rubber lines both front and rear. The front Camaro caliper is not 100% identical to the GXP caliper, but the line fits just fine.

Where did you get them powdercoated, and what did it cost?
Any pics?

I will take pictures now. Place called broward powdercoating in Coral Springs, Fl. I know the owner for years and does great work. Has contracts with dodge, ferrari and porche to do there calipers and what not. Nice little operation.
Price is 100 per caliper. He takes them apart, cleans them, sandblasts them, powdercoats, then reassembles them.
pics will be up very shortly

Looks good. I went with the CTS-V calipers, just fronts for now. If/when I go with the rears, I will have to decide if I want to paint, powdercoat, or leave them as they are.

you have any pics of them? price? i havent ordered my front calipers and rotors yet. so im open to what to get?
do you recommend the cts-v over the camaros? 6 piston would be nice.
also, where did you get them?

No, they are the 2004-2007 CTS-V 4-piston calipers, not the new 6-piston calipers. They are identical to the GXP and Camaro calipers, but they don't require you to drill the knuckle holes up to 14mm like the Camaro calipers do. Plus, I wasn't sure I wanted to pay for powdercoating, so I figured the CTS-V silver with the "V" logo works for me.
They are like $150 each, plus another $35 for each pin kit. I ordered front Camaro rotors from SLP off eBay. I am going with the Bendix D1050 brake pads. I've seen some of the GXP guys going to them as they are fairly cheap and dust much less than the stock pads and give similar performance.
The calipers are more expensive than the Camaro setup, but no drilling, no powder coating made it worth it to me.

i dont want to drill the whole bigger either. but the camaro brembos are the cheapest.
its easy to do, so im ordering all the front parts now.

rear brakes are installed and working great. had to use a 1/4 in spacer though to clear the stock 19's.
for some odd reason, the ebay seller i bought the lines from is not returning messages, has a faulty email, and has not shipped my item and its been a week.
so as of now, i wont be doing brake lines, but everything else is on order and coming within the next week or so. (spacers a little longer)
pictures of the rear will be up tomorrow morning, pending the weather conditions.

Thinking about doing the front brake upgrade too. Wondering where you got the CTS-V calipers and pin kits? I looked on GMpartsdirect and there are like 3 or 4 different calipers listed for the CTS-V. Part numbers if you have them handy would be great. I like the idea of not drilling and was going to paint/powdercoat the camaro calipers silver anyway.

I thought the same thing when I started looking at some of the powdercoated calipers done by thepowdercoater.com over on the Camaro5 forum. They all look to be done this way. He has done a ton of calipers and they all get broken down to remove the pistons, but not the lines/fittings except for the bleeders.

I just ordered the Camaro SS wheels and the Camaro SS front brake kit, what else will I need in terms of bolts to hook this kit up? Never did a brake upgrade before. thanks for the advice

you will need a 9/16 drill bit to drill the holes for the larger caliper bolts to fit through your hub.
you will also need 4 caliper mounting bolts. m14-2.00 40mm long. i picked them up at ace hardware.

as long as your using the camaro wheels with the brakes. u will be fine. if you ever reinstall your original rims, u will need a spacer.

update:
brakes are all done and working properly. but, during the install, we ran into many problems that i didnt anticipate.
1. studs are impossible to get out with the hub and bearing together. so we had to grind almost a 1/4 inch off one side inorder to get the studs out.
2. spacers i ordered from motorsport tech were made to small around the hub center 1mm or less. so we had to force them on.next time when i need to take the spacer off, i will remachine them or just get new ones made locally.
15mm spacers are more then enough for your stock rims to clear. 10mm spacer would be a perfect fit, but would make it hard to clean the calipers due to front clearance being minimal.
i am very happy with the results and the look of the aggressive brakes behind the wheels. pictures will be up tomorrow after i clean the car.
also, if you guys think i should, would u like me to make a how to post about how and what you will need inorder to install these brakes on factory 19's.
install time was 4+ hours due to unexpected hurdles along the way. overall it was a pain in the ass.
