See the 1/4 mile Racing Runs for a full write-up on the fun we had last night. To summarize 2 stock M6 GXPs, 1 stock A6 (with full BMR poly kit), great air, and 3 more GXPs in the "12-second club."

I think it's the combo of White Hot, M6, Onyx/Red, and no sunroof myself. It just makes us faster!

I will have to agree with you on that one. Dnoed the car yesterday at a dyno shot out at a Ford performance shop and had the highest no power adder car there. 422 rwhp and 420 rwt.

The air likely won't be good enough at the National G8 Meet for any stock GXPs to run 12s, but we should see a couple of them running 13.1-13.2. Spring and Fall are the times to run PBs when the temps drop, and we get cool dense air with tailwinds!

This is what I like about bracketracer. We have both run low 12.9's with bone stock cars, however we are both man enough to admit that right now (August) we don't have 12 second cars. We both realize how important good DA is to our times.

Hey OLD_GOAT, I bet you are anxiously waiting for late Sept thru winter just like me, for the return of that cool dense air! I had a chance to race a friend of mine ,Gene Scheer, at the Pontiac Nationals at Norwalk OH. He has an A6 GXP. My car is no longer stock, because I have BMR trailing arms, non-adjustable toe-rods, and cradle bushings (the differential bushings weren't in yet). My suspension mods have dramatically reduced my wheelhop, and are allowing for higher launch rpms, but I don't think I will see the full benefit until I get the diff bushings in, and better air. His car has not been stock for awhile, but the only mods appear to have been to the computer. It has been tuned, but he claims it's not a "major tune." It is obvious that they tweaked his torque management, and whatever he paid it was money well spent. We had DA of 2721' with a moderate wind (5-10 mph) from the 10:00 position. Here were the results:

My M6 GXP/ Gene's A6 GXP

60' 2.082/2.073
330' 5.7585/5.609
1/8 8.720/8.503
mph 85.62/85.21
1000' 11.244/10.992
1/4 13.374/13.102
mph 106.12/106.87

Gene got around me early on, and once he nosed ahead our mph was too equal for me to gain on him.

Gene backed this run up with a 13.06 in similar DA. I rode in my buddies A6 GXP yesterday that has now been tuned, and I was very impressed. I now believe that you A6 guys definitely get much more for your money out of a tune, but I am still looking forward to getting mine tuned. I just wonder how long the transmissions will hold up if you pull out too much of the torque management.

I am no longer completely stock like I used to be, so I won't be bettering my stock PB ET. I am sure that someone will eventually surpass me with a stock M6 GXP, but I wonder how long it will be? I hope it happens though. I'd love to see a stock M6 GXP in the 12.8x range too.

September is still pretty hot down in Houston. I'm anxiously awaiting November, when it starts getting cooler.

I'll resurrect this old thread for my new PB: 12.986 @ 108.78!
Finally into the twelves, took much longer than I thought.

Congrats Kevin! I am hoping to get my GXP back to the track in the next few weeks. Great Lakes Dragaway opens again this weekend, but they do crappy prep for the first week of the season. For me to run another 12, I need good track prep and great air. If I can't get back in the 12s in April, I will have to wait until fall. It won't happen during the summer up here.

Wish I could get into the 12s stock but with Lubbock's 3,200 ft elevation, it's extremely hard.

Yea, that makes it really rough to get that 12.9X. To be perfectly honest it took almost a perfect storm of conditions to get my 12.933 in a bone stock automatic GXP. My track is about 30 ft above sea level and the track (Houston Raceway Park or now known as Royal Purple Raceway) is a world class track. I'm sure it took bracketracer as much work as I had, more because he has a manual GXP, to get that 12 second timeslip.

Bracketracer seems to be a stand up guy and I'm sure he will tell you how difficult it was to meet his goal of getting that 12 second run and (I think) he is way above sea level.

Yea, but you didn't have to worry about hurricane Ike either.

No, just dust storms! I did my fair share of hurricanes growing up on Long Island.

OLD GOAT is absolutely correct. Getting into the 12s with a bone stock GXP on stock tires requires a combo of great track prep, great atmospheric conditions, and great driving. It took me alot of practice to get there, and I think I have only 2 or 3 12-second passes total. I hope to add to that total this year. My track elevation is about 750 ft above sea level, and I just haven't had too many days when track prep and weather were both good. Good luck, and just ask if you need any advice!

It's that "Stealth" Tune you got Kevin. When do you wanna hook up to the HPT and get some real tuning thrown your way??

Last Sunday I was at Tri-State Raceway in Earlville, IA to race at a Test-N-Tune. I was REALLY hoping for a new PB this time out. This is a sticky all-concrete track that runs west-to-east. That usually means real fast times in spring and fall. Unfortunately, we had beautiful sunny skies and warm temps. It felt real nice, but wasn't ideal for best ETs. The DA ranged from a best of about 1600 up to about 2500. I can't complain too much, because I managed a 13.059@108.40 on my first pass (2.02 60 ft on RS-As). The DA was about 1600. Some of the calculators I have tried convert that pass to as low as a 12.82 ET, which would have blown away my current PB, finally put an M6 GXP into the 12.8 zone. I know they are estimates, but I was only .138 slower than my PB, in DA that was 1800 ft higher. I have high hopes for October 39 at Great Lakes Dragway for Halloween Havoc, IF Mother Nature cooperates.

Impressive as always Joe.

I hope I can get out one more time this fall to get a new time as well. Post dyno tune :)

Well, here is my update. No new PB, but much closer. I went to Great Lakes Dragaway last Sunday for their last SRT Bracket Event of the year. Since they were running Super Pro & Pro cars as well, I figured the track prep would be decent, and it really was. Weather was better than for my trip to Tri-State. DAs ranged from a low of 989' to a high of 1668'. We had an offset tailwind from the 8:00 position, which didn't hurt. The track prep was confirmed by my first three 60 foot times, 1.993, 2.010, and 2.004 (my only "bad" 60 foot of the day was 2.111 because I launched at too little rpm and bogged a bit). I did crappy in bracket competition unfortunately, -.023 Red Light in Rd 1, and .082 breakout in Rd 2 after buying back, but the car felt great. I ran 13.143@107.83 (1.993 60 ft, 1014' DA), & 13.130@108.48 (2.017 60 ft, 1594' DA) in timeruns. After being eliminated, I decided to let the car cool down for an hour, and then see what it would do. I am glad that I did! Temp was 68 degrees, 43% humidity, 29.14 BP for a 1489' DA, and we had that moderate offset tailwind. I did a decent burnout and plenty of time to set my 3250 launch rpm properly (because the incompetent Viper driver in the other lane had stalled in the burnout box, before running at 18.065@62.80 and getting laughed at by the crowd). It was a beautiful pass!

R/T .032
60' 1.943
330' 5.472
1/8 8.382
MPH 85.72
1000' 10.862
1/4 12.953
MPH 108.80

I must've slipped the clutch a little because I could smell it after the pass, but everything about the pass felt perfect. I am very pleased with that pass at nearly 1500' DA. The dragtimes.com calculator converts that to 12.741@110.64 at sea level. I don't know about that, but it would have been solidly into the 12.8s! I still hope that Mother Nature will give me one more shot this year, but I am not very confident.

It's ironic that in the same country, the Wisconsin area is shutting down while us down here in Texas are waiting a bit longer for the beloved negative DA.

bracketracer
10-28-2011, 10:50 AM
Not all tracks up here have shut down. A few stay open until the snow first flies. It just gets tough finding a free weekend, with an open track that actually preps the starting line, and good air. I am keeping my fingers crossed though !

Joe, I think I'm go to Cordova on Saturday for the Fun Day... can you make it? Do you think they will have good track prep for this event?

bracketracer
10-28-2011, 01:21 PM
Unfortunately, I can't make it. I have always experienced good track prep at Cordova though, so I wouldn't be afraid to go. I just took a peak at the weather, and I really wish I could be there. It is a short race day, noon to 4:00, but it looks like DAs will range from a low of about 50' and only go up to about 450'. Plus the wind will be WNW, so it's an offset tailwind. I see that they may be open on Saturday November 12 for another Fun Day (weather permitting of course). If the weather looks decent I might have to consider a road trip since I don't work that day.
