So I'm going crazy trying to decide what to actually do about which fuel setup to upgrade to. To make a long story short, I have obtained a second fuel tank and stock fuel pump. I've seen some talk a long time ago about using 2 stock pumps in the tank. Thanks to Ebay I have about $200 invested. Some pics...

I'm obviously wanting to try and save some money(I know I know).

The opening on the other side of the tank is a bit smaller than the fuel pump side. Why is there even a hole there to begin with? I'm a total noob here so any insight good or bad is appreciated.

From what I understand, the second hole was for a sending unit (to measure fuel level).

Nate if I were you I would make a custom fuel pump hat out of stainless steel and stick a few Walbro 255 pumps in there like the GSS340's or something. Then take SAE30R10 submersible fuel hose from each pump to a Y that ends in the -8AN female fitting. Then go from that to a -8AN bulkhead fitting that will be on the top of your new fuel hat. Then run a -8AN line forward to the aftermarket rails of your choice and aftermarket FPR of your choice too. Run a -6AN line from FPR back to your new pump hat and into a -6AN bulkhead fitting. Then once back inside the tank go from -6AN bulkhead to 3/8" hose barb and run a short length of SAE30R10 submersible line to the bottom of tank to prevent aeration of fuel. Then take the stock fuel pump wiring and either upgrade it or run it to power a relay. Then run 12v power from your battery through the relay and to your pumps. This will ensure that you have enough juice and will not put too much demand on the existing electrical system. To access all of this just be really careful and cut an access panel under where your rear seat is. You would not even have to drop the tank and it will not cost an arm and a leg either.

I wish I had enough bandwidth to post a picture of one of the custom fuel pump hats I made in the past but unfortunately I am running off a connection that is possibly slower than dial up. Hope this helps. Ask questions if you are unclear on anything.

Robert has you on the right track with what you should be making.

I have to disagree with the use of Walbro pumps though. After going through several of them..190, 255 and then 2 255HP versions, I had enough. The Denso (p/n: 195130-1020) pump for the TT supra was the way to go. I flowed a little more than the Walbro 255HP and was WHISPER QUIET. After 2 years of hard miles I sold the car last year and its still going strong.

Skim, this it's pretty interesting... http://www.stealth316.com/2-fuelpumpguide.htm

Secondary fuel module is just to pump fuel back to the side of the tank that has the main pump when driving forces make the fuel shift to the one side of the tank.

i like the idea of a surge tank. , use the stock pump to keep a small 2nd tank full. put a return on the top of that tank back to the stock tank. then build a whole new fuel system off of that surge tank.

surge tank would need to be metal and the fill opening welded shut.

if i ever get going on my set up i am going to go nuts, do it once and do it right. i know of no very large pumps with a good reputation so i am thinking tripple walbro 392's. one on all the time and 2 when the boost hits. one -10 line forward splitting to 2 -8's, one to each rail. then on the other side of the rails y them back together and goto a regulator and back to the surge tank with a -6.

i have been the route where i messed with the stock tank and pick up. ended up having to run 1/2 a tank of gas to make sure i didn't suck air. i have been the route where i ran a fuel cell and that sucked too. surge tanks seems like a great solution but i haven't tried it yet so i am not sure of any negatives. cost will add up thats for sure.

The kit that never was would have been nice.

yep, i have most of those parts sitting in my garage. i want to go with 3 pumps and i would like to see filters on there. i have had too many close calls from pluged pumps before.

i dont see anything custom there. just a matter of putting the parts together. the cap on the tank might be custom but i would prefer to see that welded shut with a plate anyways.

that is a sweet set up.

i would not expect that pump to last if it is run 100% of the time.

I have thought about making a new fuel pickup/sender before but it sounded like a lot of work for not much reward?

That's a pretty nice setup. I'm having a hard time deciding between a surge setup and dual in-tank setup.

I would like to be able to use my remote start. I wonder if the surge tank setup would work with that better than the dual in-tank.

either set up would be fine with the remote start. you trigger one pump off of the stock pump wire. trigger the other pump/pumps with some other source like a hobbs switch.

Doesn't work with the walbro's (lonnie's setup) they take too long to pressurize the line or so I'm told...

It's not an appearance mod, it's a necessity for guys with big power combos.
At some point the stock fuel system cannot provide enough fuel to keep a blown or turbo engine happy.
The reward with a custom fuel system is that your mega dollar forced induction engine does not lean out and die from fuel starvation effects.

The circular tank system above is from a twin turbo LS3 in a GTS.

Here's another for a twin turbo LSX.

hmm, interesting. they have a check valve so should hold pressure but not forever. i could see it taking a little longer to build up pressure if you have a big fuel line.

It does take longer and the remote start doesn't prime long enough from what I heard. Unless someone figures out a way to extend the prime time before firing...
