HDMI Cable - Best Place to Order?

Hey Guys,

I am finishing my basement and plan on sheetrocking soon. I need to run the HDMI cable behind to keep the clean look for hanging the TV on the wall.

Where is the best place to order one, about 20ft long? I looked on ebay, and the prices range from $12-$60, so I didn't know if those $12 are legit?

I always order all my cables from Monoprice.com and have had fantastic quality from them. I have probably spent $200+ on items from there and have never had any problems. I would definately recommend them!

I've used these for long runs (upwards of 40ft for my projector) with no problems. They have a lot of different HDMI cables and lengths, just go with the cheapest for the length. Don't bother with any local store as they will rip you off (BestBuy would charge you over $100 for similar cable). It's completely asinine. It's a digital signal, it either works or doesn't. Not like your analog cables that can be more prone to interference.

If you plan to run a very long HDMI cable, you will pay more though since you will need to amplify the signal. Usually over 40-50ft. I had no problems running my 35ft cable. 25ft should be cake.

I've used www.cablesdirect.com several times and have been really pleased. Way cheaper than Best Buy. Not sure how it compares to monoprice.

For HDMI, especially, don't pay the extra dough for name brand cables at an electronics store.

I use http://www.bluejeanscable.com for all my longer run cables. I wouldn't use best buy at all. They rape you on cable prices. I have found Home Depot actually has very good prices on short A/V cables.
I have a 35' HDMI cable running to my projector and have no issues with artifacts in the images.

Not true, i have a lot of expensive HDMI cables tha won't pass 1080p. 3D is the next obstacle. A lot of people are going to be mad when their $100 cable and their new expensive TV won't work with HDMI 1.4
A good quality cable from any of those place's will probably work fine. Make sure it's rated to provide 1080p at whatever length it is. Also for long runs you can't beat Cat5 adaptors from Monster or Snap AV
Long HDMI cables have many issues and we won't use them any more.
Lastly before you sheetrock, stick some conduit in the wall for future proofing. We use flexible conduit but PVC works great, just don't make tight bends and make sure to stick a pull wire in it. Trust me you'll want it for something in the future ;)

Thanks, yes that is the plan! I am sure something new/better will come out as soon as we finish, so we'll be all set for that.

I was trying to think how the pull wire should be set up...can you explain how I should run it or set that up?

I JUST did this myself. I went to a local guy I know here as he got me some AMAZING prices but Amazon has them as well. Remember it's only transmitting ones and zeros so the cable its self doesn't need to be amazing but the ends are what count. You want to make sure they attach well. That being said. I went mid grade and the picture is AWESOME! My buddy's in the home theatre business so I take his word for gospel. He puts in 100,000 dollar systems. Mine is NOT that nice... lol

monoprice.com sells quality cables. Most are of the quality that Monster makes (more are better quality), without the obsurdely high prices. Monster Cables are overpriced junk.

Monoprice for sure. I have a 20' HDMI cable from them that was their daily special. Awesome deal and the cable is great.

Edit: I forgot to add, my 58" Panasonic Plasma hangs on a Monoprice wall mount that I paid $25 for. The wall will fall down before that mount moves.

Monoprice is the only thing I use anymore. C-net even uses them now & did a number of tests w/high end meters/scopes & found they were just as good or better than the Monster cables. For long runs they worked well also. Check c-net. They also recommended the bluejeans place, although I've never used them. They have many different A/V things also. Their wall mounts are very nice & are literally 1/4 of Best Buy's price & equal or better quality.

I can't believe they are trying 3D out again. Give me a break. The only cool 3D display I saw was one that did NOT require 3D glasses. Pretty cool stuff. Still needs work though. Until then, I don't think I'll be wearing goggles for my movies. Didn't work 15 years ago, doubtful it will work now. These theaters are grasping for straws man. A nice Home Theater setup can't be touched. Went to the movies a few weeks ago for the first time in almost a year. I remember why I stay at home haha.

Just grab yourself a cheap HDMI cable. Most are 1.3 spec at least and rated for 1080p. Not sure how many features of 1.3 spec are even being used yet (like Deep Color), and now they've got 1.4 spec? Anything to upsell people I guess. That 1080p scheme was a homerun in marketing. Not a bad idea to future proof your system though, good idea to run conduit for future runs when HDMI is replaced someday.

Another vote for monoprice. Newegg has good prices too. Don't buy cables from a retail store, ever. Monster is way overpriced, proven over and over again in many tests(google it). For digital cables the signal is either there or it isn't, so other than the version of hdmi it's rated for the brand doesn't matter. Cables are probably the highest gross profit item best buy sells.
