View Full Version : car hesitates when accelerating

A couple of days ago I matted the gas pedal and the car started to accelerate then for a brief second she hesitated (almost like I took my foot off the pedal) then acceleration was normal. Later on I had a chance to repeat this and that time it was okay. This is the first time I have experienced this. Car is 100% stock except for an AFE air filter and I burn Phillips 66 or Sunoco 93 octane. BTW when this happened I was at 30 mph ….
I know I got to get her tuned and as soon as I have the $$ I’m going to.

Not positive about this, but couldn't it be the transmission downshifting that causes the delay? My other thoughts are that it's the tq management kicking in.

Almost sounds like the neutral downshift that the stock tranny tune has....and some torque management like JPEGXP said......
The neutral down shift can be tuned out, and your tuner will pull out TM to your liking...

also, this happened to me this AM after extended operation in DoD mode. Came to a quick stop, then it hesitated badly as I mashed it. Seemed like it took extra time to come out of DOD mode. A good tranny tune will fix it.

It could also be that the tranny was just starting a shift, ether down or up at the exact moment you pressed the gas. I got this from the HP Tuners forum. If it's this particular problem, there is no way to completely eliminate it. It has happened to me.

Okay thanks for the replies and yea the traction control was on I just leave it on all the time. On the stock tune is the trans tm set to 50%? Sometimes I wonder about lag time with AFM too. Thanks again I’ve got some great help from you guys since I’ve had my G8.

The stock tune doesn't have settings like a Superchips tuner, it is what it is. It's holding the power hostage, so you gotta set it free with a tune.
