If you've bought one of these sliding armrests can you please check underneath to make sure you aren't heading for a problem.
We've already had one that got jammed when it was slid about an inch forward.

If yours does get jammed we can un-jam it so whatever you do...do not force it.
I'm working on a simple no-cost solution so they do not jam in the future.

The sliding Centre Console Armrest we are talking about.

I only have one new sliding armrest here (reserved for a customer) and it has no circlip (snap ring) on either pin to stop them walking inwards and jamming the slider.
Both pins are machined to accept a circlip but none are fitted.
I'll find out the story with this from Holden over the next few days.
Regardless of what they say.....I'll soon send out to everyone who has bought a sliding console lid from me a small solution kit. This kit will contain 2 or more circlips/snap rings/E clips (whatever Holden come up with to prevent the pins walking inwards).

Thanks to Justin for bringing this to my attention.
Thanks to Dan for letting me use his sliding armrest to demonstrate the issue.
(I'll fit circlips/snap rings to this and all future sliding armrests that come thru).

Paul if you want to just ship me a bunch of rings [or locate some locally stateside, i could do that] I can probably mail them cheaper from my end...

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the great offer.
I'm still working thru the solution at the moment.
I've got a heap of suitable E clips, just need to figure out an easy way for end-users to install them in such a tight spot. Solution kit will contain instructions and it will all fit in a normal Airmail envelope.

How to install E Clips on the outer extremity of your pins.

1) 3mm E Clips are perfect. They are a slightly loose fit, which makes getting them on and rotating them a breeze. I'll Airmail out 4 to all my sliding console customers, you only need 2, but you may lose a couple getting them on.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y20/PerthPurplePenguin/car%20parts/Sliding%20Console%20Lid/R1010300.jpg

2) Get yourself a cheap pen from somewhere.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y20/PerthPurplePenguin/car%20parts/Sliding%20Console%20Lid/R1010290.jpg

3) Pull the central part out.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y20/PerthPurplePenguin/car%20parts/Sliding%20Console%20Lid/R1010291.jpg

4) Get a sharp blade and cut into the end of the pen tube to a depth of no more than 3mm. If you slice too far, just trim the end off.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y20/PerthPurplePenguin/car%20parts/Sliding%20Console%20Lid/R1010293.jpg

5) Load an E Clip into the cut you just made in the pen tube
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y20/PerthPurplePenguin/car%20parts/Sliding%20Console%20Lid/R1010295.jpg

6) Push the pin as far outward as it will travel.
[To the left in this pic]
You need clearance between the square black housing and the circlip groove.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y20/PerthPurplePenguin/car%20parts/Sliding%20Console%20Lid/PR1010296.jpg

7) Load an E Clip vertically onto the pin, directly above the circlip groove (shown with the green dotted lines in the last pic).
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y20/PerthPurplePenguin/car%20parts/Sliding%20Console%20Lid/R1010297.jpg

8) Push down on the pen tube until you hear the E Clip click itself shut.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y20/PerthPurplePenguin/car%20parts/Sliding%20Console%20Lid/R1010298.jpg

9) Give the E Clip a poke with the pen tube, rotate the E Clip and check visually if it has clipped into position. If it spins on the pin that's a good sign it is centrally clipped on.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y20/PerthPurplePenguin/car%20parts/Sliding%20Console%20Lid/R1010289.jpg

10) Repeat for the pin on the other side. You only need 1x E Clip on the outer end of each pin.

When are you going to be able to get more armrests? Are they still hard to come by?

Yes Holden still have 0 stock, there are none on any shelves anywhere.
They have been extending the ETA by one week everytime it expires. As of yesterday the ETA was 22nd Mar for new stock on shelves in Melbourne. One week extra to arrive here to me.
I wouldn't put any faith in the 22nd being adhered to.

Maybe you can sell it back to Holden.
Yesterday while trying to sort out this problem they didn't have a sliding armrest at head office in Melbourne to look at.
Even given the labelled and marked up pics at the start of this thread they still couldn't understand the problem.
So yeah they didn't have anything to do with the solution.
(As you can tell by the proposed E Clip installation tool which does not cost $685).

Clips arrived yesterday.

Installed today. Didn't even lose one. Though almost did. One clip fell down inside the sliding armrest. I stuck a long magnet down there and waved it around and it pulled right out. I also used a set of needle nose instead of the pen tool.

Thanks Paul

Justin

Excellent. Good job Justin !!!!!
The pen tool might be Redneck but it's something everyone should already have and it's never going to scratch or poke holes in anything.
It's a tight space you have to access with the clip.

I have a heap more E-clips in stock now. Just PM me if you need some, I don't care if you bought your sliding armrest somewhere else.

Thanks Paul for the great customer service! Got my clips in the mail Monday. Install was easy using your special "high-tech" tool. Only lost 1 clip, but it was my bad because I didn't have the pin pushed in far enough when trying to push the clip on.
