Gents, I just ordered my maggie 1.9 ($5800). Do we need a fuel pump booster (safety issue)?

I noticed shops like Lingenfelter running a Kenne Bell Fuel Pump booster.

Thoughts / Insights?

Thanks.

get one for safety issues you wont regret it especially if you are going above 450rwhp

No you don't need one with the stock pulley, but when you start upgrading with more power you need some injectors and a BAP. I'm making 495 rwhp without a BAP on mine. I did have to get 60 lbs injectors though. Also mine is tuned with hp tuner.

Thank you gents.....where is the line of demarcation? 450 RWHP -- at that point you need 60lb injectors and the fuel pump booster?

(I"m installing a Rotofab CAI, ARH long tubes, the maggie and a tune)

Knowing a "general rule of thumb" might help me know the "safe margin" ... is 425 RWHP the point where I need to upgrade to pump booster and injectors?

What do you think?

you need #60 injectors also if you go above 450whp as I said get the BAP for safety issues you wont loose nothin

525rwhp=BAP+60 injectors

Pardon the "newbie" question .... what the heck is a BAP?

You need the injectors, but I'm making 500 without a bap. I won't go any higher without something.

One of you is suggesting 60lb injectors (sounds like a safety must).

Another of you kind gents is suggesting "I'm okay as long as I stay with stock Maggie pulley." .............

My goal is obviously a "safe / fun" setup vs. all out drag racing horsepower. She is a daily driver -- drive her every day 60 miles to office and back.

No problem.

BAP= Boost A Pump

Norm, what happened? Did the kb part give out?

Kept blowing pumps with it somehow even though it was installed correctly. I'm going to try the magnavolt or a dual pump setup. I haven't decided yet.

Good to know.. I've been dragging my feet on the fuel upgrades.
Magnavolt seems like they haven't had any "blown pump" history.
*crosses fingers*
I've been debating getting the Fast 65 injectors. Any reason why 60lb would be better than 65 for our setups?

I was told the 60# were good to 750 rwhp. I was also told that the larger injectors don't like to flow small amounts like when at idle, causing misfires.

Dude you wont loose anything if just buy the BAP and the #60 injectors and dont go over 525rwhp if you want to be safe of course with the BAP and the #60 injectors

Good to know. Thanks! 500rwhp no bap sounds like you had some gains after you took out the bap.

Ahh.. nevermind I just saw your sig. I didn't know you put in a custom blower cam.

You guys hear of losing 2 lbs of boost with long tubes? some shop in Florida is adamant that this is true!

Yes, there's a whole post on it.

Lower boost is good, the engine lasts longer. Mines a DD

Yeah...I initiated it. Thanks though.

Are there any negative effects of running a BAP if it's not NEEDED by the engine/fuel system? When I do my maggie I'm shooting for something ~450rwhp. I am more than likely going to keep the stock pulley and will not be doing a cam. I figure I can do the injectors to keep it safe, but at what point would I also need the BAP? I'm afraid (not that it's based on anything) that having the BAP (when not needed) might cause un-necessary strain on the stock fuel pump.

I don't think having it installed at 450RWHP will hurt anything because it only boosts the voltage under conditions where its needed. You won't need it yet? I don't know what I'm talking about. I'm Ron Burgundy?

You shouldnt need a BAP at 450 RWHP, on my car it was about 520 when I was really starting to see the fuel go south and by 550 I was out :\

Ran 11.8, must have been the weight saving from not having a BAP lol.

I'm looking to putting in a BAP. What's a good price for Magnavolt BAP, 60lb injectors and install?

Thanks!

I'm running with the 60lbs but no BAP. 513rwhp. My installer/tuner said I'm near the limit (about 90% capacity on the fuel pump and MAF). He tuned it very conservatively and said if I go up on the pulley or make any other mods I'll need a fuel pump and should switch to speed density instead of MAF. However, as it is it as safe. FWIW
