Newbie here, coming from an 04 GTO, and my new G8 has stuff for me to learn.

Hold down the left side scroll wheel on the steering wheel and turn on the power to the car while holding the wheel down.

I took a road trip this weekend, so I went to Engineering mode to monitor the active fuel management and throttle postion. I hit the button on the wheel that normally scrolls through the DIC, and it kicked me back into the regular DIC. I don't understand why they have it programmed to allow you to go from Engineering mode to DIC mode, but not the other way around without turning the car off and starting it with the scroll wheel depressed.

They should have either made it able to go either way, or just stay within the mode it is currently in until the car is restarted.

Cause the guys that rigged up this sytem don't understand the word intuitive?

Since I got my dashhawk I pretty much never use engineering mode. The only time I really need it is to check oil life.

I still need to hook my dash hawk up and see it work...

I made this sticky and moved it to electronics. This is a good question and one that should be readily available for answer.

Thanks,
Chris

What does this engineering mode do? I don't remember reading about this in the owners manual. Or maybe I'm just really out of it lately.

I'm going to try it out in the morning. I have never looked at it before.

Start the car while holding the left button on the wheel.

I've looked over the owner's manual and I don't see anything in it referring to "engineering mode". How did you find out about this? Probably end up being a dumb question but what the hek, it won't be the first or the last I'm sure.

I sure don't remember seeing anything in the manual either. Gonna have to check this out to see what it is!

Thanks for bringing this back up, cause I thought this was available to look at when I saw this car at the dealership on a 08, but when I got my 09 I could not find it. This is why I tell everyone who buys a car to get involved in a forum!

Again thanks,
Tim

self test = make sure all your dash lights light up and your sound thingy works. Active Fuel Management is when it shuts down half of your cylinders to save you gas.

can i make it run on 8 all the time?

Only in manual shift mode or having it tuned out.

New question (sorry if it's been covered already) is there a way to change the temp readings for the trans and coolant from Celsius to Fahrenheit?

Open your car, sit in the drivers seat, with your left hand hold down the "ENTER BUTTON" on the steering wheel, insert key in the ignition and start car. Check out the menu on the driver info display. This is NOT in the owners manual and NO one at two dealerships knew what I was talking about. Interesting is it not? Thanks to a friend in Australia for sharing this one. :woohoo:

Yes thats it. Could find nothing in the owners manual and the Dealership folks thought I was nuts when I asked about it. They said there was no suvch thing. Interesting info contained there. Especially the transmission sump temp. Could not understand why the "Manual" kept talking about the engine oil life in % but was not displayed anywhere. And Tom Pierce the "Self Test" is a real trip. Did not know if it turned off by itself or as I did push the enter button to stop it.

LOL! Tom you quit messing with people on the self test! :spank: For some reason dealers dont know about this. Not saying all of them, but a lot of them.

Interesting about the Actie Fuel Management. Thought that was on the 8 cylinders only. My 6 cylinder's Engineer Mode tells me my active fuel management is running fine. Go figure! Don't think that my car has it but it is displayed and tells me it i functoning fine.

I was trying to access to the engineering mode but when I hold the "Enter" button it gave me a message as "service engine oil" while car is still not due to service . Also couldn't scroll or navigate to change anything on this mode it just gives this message ? what to do?

You don't hold the enter button when you turn the key on.

I plugged in from 50 to 105 degrees C and got a really good chart. I did this in increments of 2. If you are using this at the track, anything over 105 C (219 F) is too hot to be running anyway.

50 C is 122 degrees F
105 C is 219 degrees F

Here is another.

Hum so if many dealers aren’t aware of the “service mode” how do they reset the oil life monitor or does the thing reset it’s self with fresh oil?

To reset the oil life monitor, you turn the key to "on" (with the car off), and push the gas pedal to the floor 3 times. Then turn the car off.

You have to do it pretty quickly though, I think it's 3 times in like 5 seconds (or something like that. It's says it in your owners manual)

Thanks polo, I had asked the dealer to service the car for me. When I checked the oil life it was at 89%. I reset it per your instructions and it read 99% afterwards. Maybe its different now than years ago but I though when automakers first changed to fuel injection most owners’s manuals warned against pumping the gas pedal without engine running?

BTW Does service mode work on the Camaro SS also? I have a buddy that just bought one.

It's different now. You don't have a throttle cable.

Any idea how to access Engineering Mode on a 2006 Torrent? Does it even have it?
