SOOO in anticipation of my headers, I want to get a set of the MSD wires. I guess the stock wires will not clear the headers completely on one side.
I called Hawaii racing (my local speed shop) and they told me that the 6.0L corvette and GTO wires will work ok on the G8. I got part number 32813.
Just curious if this is the same number that others have used.

Look at the JBA wires Wretched sells. They will work with the factory spark plug boot metal shields and fit like the factory wires. I just put a set on my car.

I dont see those for the G, only the camaro. Are they the same (I dont know why they wouldnt be)
The MSD wires I can get are 60.00 bux and in stock locally.

Nope, Mids... trying to at least look legal. I guess the 1 3/4s will clear fine, but the 1 7/8th just barely touch. I dont have the headers yet, so I am trying to make for a smooth install...

My son has a set of MSD wires that he never put on his GTO. I was thinking about sticking them on my car. Are you saying they won't fit the metal shields ?? Are the shields needed ??

Same thing. I have 1 7/8 ARH and they are not even close to the headers.

They don't fit the shields correctly. I like using the shields when possible as it prolongs the boot life.

My stock wires fit fine, there is one on the passenger side, the second one back that touched, I just squeezed the shield a little to clear. Also the MSDs seem like they pull to tight, has something to do with the angle of the spark plug boot or the length of the wire. I'm looking for a set and would not recommend the MSD, I'm not saying they will not fit, just do not like how tight they fit. I'd go with the ones Charlie mentioned.

Can I run stock wires for a little while? If there is contact maybe some header wrap so I can order the wretched ones?
I went and looked at the msd wires and they are with flexable boots... Made for the 6L GTO and vette.... They asked if LS3 heads were taller...

The heat on a stock engine from the headers is not as much say, as mine with the supercharger and I'm still running the stock ones.

WickedMom, when I first installed my 1-7/8 Kooks mids, I was under the impression the stock wires cleared just fine. Turns out two of them touched a little bit. I ran like that for about a week until my MSD wires came in. There wasn't a problem in that short amount of time. The MSD wires clear without problem.

They fit, maybe 1/4" longer than stock over all. The rubber at the top of the spark plug boot is more rounded than stock. The squareish stock one touched my headers in a couple locations. These don't touch.

This is my 3rd LS car & I've never seen the point to running different wires. The stockers tested decent, the ignition is distributerless w/individual coils, & wires are pretty short. Always thought it was annoying to see aftermarket LS wire sets were more than regular wire sets when they have 1/10 the wire. They always advertise lower resistance, but that's more a concern w/long wires & a single coil trying to fire 8 cylinders. Anyone ever picked up any power with them?

You may be after a couple years with the added heat from that supercharger you are adding. If you want a piece of mind get a different set and also the protective socks that fit over the boots.

I have the Kooks midlength headers and I dont have any issues running the stock wires. I am also not a big proponent of MSD wires. I have had 3 sets go bad on my Camaro. I know several people that have all out 7-8 second drag cars and they say MSD stands for My Spark Disappeared:D

i have 2 wires barley touching my pacesetters i always liked msd on my 5.3 sierra and gto for the bendable boots
so what part # fit the g8's?

Shane, part # 32813(black) and 32819(red).
I knew I was gonna have that prob with the pacesetters so I picked up these wires too..... just gotta find time to get it all installed.

yep those are the ones i had on my gto i figured they would fit all lsx cars
the ls2's have the bended boot but the msd boots flex and hold so it works out

+1 on that. Put MSD and some new NGK plugs in while your at it. atleast that's what I did when putting my 1 7/8 Kooks on..

Nope, i sell them all the time to the domestic guys and the drag race guys......Unless you're plannin on doin FI or nitrous, it's not necessary to change the plugs til the scheduled time unless you wanna go ahead and put fresh stockers in it.....
Unless you go with an iridum plug, you're not gonna get the mileage out of a standard resistor plug....

I thought that the standard plugs were not hot enough... which is why the plugs are iridium now. I don't plan on ever running NOS and probably still a ways out from going FI. Ill leave the stockers in.

I just went ahead and put one cooler range plug in, the NGK TR6. There nothing wrong with stock, I just went ahead tried it. Plugs are pretty cheap so no big deal.
While you have your plugs out check the gap on them..sometimes from factory there are not gapped correctly. I was pretty lucky my were gapped pretty close to perfect.

The TR6 plug is a standard plug. Not an iridium. Now, you can get it in an iridium(TR6IX) just gonna cost you a lil bit more coin. 1.99 vs 7.99, big price jump for the iridium. But its just like the platinum, a high mileage plug.
As far as running cooler, I don't see the benefits on a stock motor, but some will disagree. I could see it helping keep cylinder temps down if you,say, have tune set up a little lean? But its always good for FI and nitrous as the combustion process is a little bit more "violent"

I could see running a cooler plug, but only if your current flavor indicates a problem. Most of the time a plug that looks to be too hot (white electrodes and usually some knock) indicates you are too lean or have too much timing. I would check and correct those things first.

I ran a 1* cooler plug in my GP which helped fight against KR. As far as the G8, I have wondered if a different plug was needed once headers, ported TB/manifold, CAI and tune was added.
Now go out and buy the MSD wires.

Another good option is Magnecor wires. I installed a set on my GTO when I installed JBA headers and they fit great - no touching the tubes. Part # 85259 are 8.5mm wires with 45 degree boots designed for LS engines with aftermarket headers. (Their catalog lists the same part numbers for G8s and GTOs.)

i have msd wires. even with the dielectric grease these things go on tight. too tight i think. also when i did take them off i noticed one was kind of floppy in the part that goes to the plug. i had some extra wires so i decided to cut open the boot cover. it had severed. if you ever cut the msd boot cover off you will notice the metal connector is kind of long and flimsy. i guess that allows you to bend them to a degree while putting them on your vehicle. i am sure i was probably a little to rough on the one that broke. but still. it should not of happened.

Are the stock plugs Platinum or Iridium?(what is the part number-I do not have a manual with my car) Do I NEED dielectic grease when changing the plugs. Where is the best place to get stock wires.
