Wait until Georges internet goes back on, he has a foot of snow. His car is snowed in! He sent me a pic on my phone and I could not believe how fast he got hit by the storm.

It got better after I left the customer. I was east of the lake. As soon as I got South, it warmed up. I did miss a left hand turn. Car went straight when I tried to stop.

Well I just ordered my wheels for the winter. After talking to Kyle at Tire Rack he made it clear to me that smaller really is better so I ordered some 17x8" wheels and some 225/55/17 WS-60 Blizzak's to go on them.

The outside diameter is the same as the stockers but these things will look goofy as all get out on this thing... 17" wheels instead of my stock 19" wheels? LOL

Here's the wheels http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/WheelCloseUpServlet?target=runWheelSearch&winter=11&initialPartNumber=G178421205BS&wheelMake=Sport+Tuning&wheelModel=Glide&wheelFinish=Bright+Silver+Paint&autoMake=Pontiac&autoModel=G8+GT&autoYear=2009&autoModClar=&qty_front=4

I actually like the design. Understated but nice. Much like the stockers which I like too.

Kyle said the WS-60 was rated number one by them and said they out performed the studded tires. I've never had winter tires so I am looking forward to trying them out. He said these are the shiz nits!

Oh and I went without the TPMS on them. 288 bucks is NUTS! I will live with the stupid light! 1078.59 was the total delivered to my door and I will install them meself!

Cheers,
Chris

Same here but that will be dropping on Friday to the 40's. It won't be long until I need the snows on it. :hang:

Q: Do the prices jump at the first sign of a snowflake ?

-Ray-
11-03-2008, 02:51 PM
LOL
No, everyone goes to the store and empties it of milk, bread, eggs, beer. Being from Calif. I wasn't prepared for this. I had to get milk at the gas station. LOL!

Snow tyre prices don't jump ?
The price of fuel jumps here as soon as the first little old lady in Canada turns on her house heater.

Talk to greg @ pace. I just ordered new sensors for my summer wheels from him. < 180 for the set of 4

Well I ordered them yesterday and my G/F said they came already! DAMN! That was quick but South Bend IN is only a few hours away so makes since.

I asked her how they looked... Her response was "they look like wheels and tires." LOL

I guess I could have the bead broken and insert the sensors huh?

I think I will go without for now unless it really starts bothering me.:o

Those look good - be sure to take some pics of them on the car!

I was wondering if on the stocker 18 wheels (245/45-18) a 225/50 or so would fit as a snow? still trying to find a decent snow tire that 'll fit on the stock rims.

I would like to see some pics of what they look like on it. Looking at getting the same rims myself.

That's the problem! Only two for the 19" and NO WS-60's for the 18" and those are the ones to have from what TR says. We will SEE! :o

I like them. They have a directional tread pattern which is pretty cool and the tread width is only about a half an inch smaller from my measurements.

TR said to go with a skinny a tire as possible. These wheels are 8" wide and they look fine on them!

so what your saying is, I still got a better deal.. if you do the price conversion.. And I got tires that I'm sure I'll like, as OI Loved the original X-Ice tires I had on my Bonneville.

Tire rack rated the X-ice 2's just slightly below the WS-60's but he said it was a VERY close 2nd. I just don't buy Michelin tires. It's a personal preference thing...

I think mine are going on tonight! Supposed to be in the 20 or 30's on Sunday... FOR A HIGH! DAMN!

I ran X-Ice on my Honda Element SC, and they sucked. Better than stock but nothing like a Blizzak or Nokian.

Last night and today we got 6 inches so far. It rained before so there is 2 inches of ice underneath the snow. The 8 with Nokians felt like I was on dry pavement. I love this car.

OK I got them mounted up! They look stupid as shit bit not as bad as this pic makes them look. The tires are the same diameter of the stock 19's but man is the car wiggly now! It's like my 4X4. You can feel the sidewall give.:lame:

While I don't like the handling I know I will like them in the snow. They are 5 pounds lighter than the stockers which weighed 55 pounds with everything.

You can actually feel the 20lb reduction is mass a lot.

Anyway... Njoy the iPhone pic from the petrol station.

I noticed the samething I atribute it to the softer rubber in winter tires. (AND in your case, taller sidewalls)

I'm sure that doesn't help but man these tires are SO quiet and and compliant to the bumps and stuff and on mine I can totally feel the 5 pound per wheel reduction of weight. It makes a HUGE difference. Makes me want to buy forged aluminum wheels for her...

Larger wheels & tires = more unsprung weight! Why I got 18"er's.

From what I was told the difference between the stock 18 and 19 wheels isn't that much.

I bought what I thought looked best. Sometimes one out weighs the other but not always...

Weight may be the same, but it's further out, more power to get 'em moving and keep 'em moving. The lever principle in reverse.

OK but then again the taller tires reduce cornering ability.

19" is as tall as I would go. Anymore then that is overkill IMO.

NASCAR tires are 28" in diameter wih 15" wheels. :)

I put the winter sneakers on tonight. Even got the TPMS sensors set.
The weatherman say's the snow is a coming. :windy: So we'll see how the Dunlop DS-2's perform.
The car looks ok with the 17" GTO wheels. I'll have to get pics with them on it. My tire package was fairly cheap. Rims- free, Tires- $550, TPMS- $238
