100% stock form, 300 miles on the odometer, September 6, 2008. Ran at No Problem Raceway (soon to be The Circuit at Grand Bayou).

1:26.xxx with a passenger

Time is comparable to stock M3s.

To preface: no helmets were required for this event so I was not quite racing as my top speed was severely limited by the mostly stock RX-8 pace car (lowered suspension, upgraded brakes and tires, lightbar, and decals). That said, I was able to push most conrners fairly hard once the track started to dry. That said, the pace car was taking very "compromised" racing lines to avoid putting our qroup through the standing water sideways. So, it was closer to a parade lap than anything. Still, not bad for $50. Also, this is the last 15 min of a 24 min session, which was my second session of the day. I only paid for one session, but due to the extremely wet conditions of the earlier session, it wasn't exactly fun (I was in 4th and 5th gear for the whole first run) Both of the SS-R trucks in front of me were having traction issues and the 'Vette behind me actually spun out. Fortunately, I had no such issues. Anyhow, enjoy!

I've not yet been home long enough to get my car out on the track, but here's a video from an event I tagged-along at:

I noticed two things.
1. When I sat in your passenger seat we only went in straight lines. LOL
2. Some of those corners have more "uh-oh" stripes on exit vs entry.

Thanks for posting the video.

I have a Race-Technology DL1 data logger... basically a GPS integrated accelerometer. It provides all sorts of interesting data... the video stuff is just for fun

Yes, the south circuit to be exact. This was a Bloomington Gold Blast! Expo event.

The $350 events are full day events with classroom instruction, driving instruction, and multiple heats and no pace car.

Todd, we should hook up for the upcoming Hooked on Driving event. Bill, do join us if you can. We should chat at GONE.

Would love to do a road racing day. Would be even better if we could get a couple of g8s out there. I do have some concerns about brakes and such being able to handle it but we will definately talk at gone. Not to mention I have about 1k worth of parts that need to be installed including all the bushings and ss lines.

What day are you heading out there? A couple of us are planning to leave Friday morning.

I live in California, but was in the Chicago area for work. I couldn't run my car, so hooked-up my gear to another car. I will not be in the Chicago area for the next Hooked on Driving event (I'll be in Las Vegas at GoatRun).

We should chat at GONE.
I will be at GONE if you have questions. I'll bring my data logger if you want to check it out.

Todd, just wondering, do you have any brake cooling vents installed? I'm doing an event at VIR a week from Friday and a little concerned about heat on the brakes with the hp I've added since the last event.

Nope, not yet... but I have all the parts to make something. Someday I'll actually be at home with my car for longer than two days and I'll get to all of these projects. Hell, maybe someday I'll even get my car out on the track!

I'm taking my inspiration from an install I saw on a Gen5 Camaro (http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2475584#post2475584):

From what I hear, making sure you have the right pads and fluid can make a big difference. With a car as heavy as a G8, once the driver knows what they are doing, I hear it is difficult to use a street/track (hybrid) pad.

-Todd...

OK, thanks. I am working with a local shop that does a bunch of work for road track cars and will have it in next week for a track alignment and high temp brake fluid flush. We're going to make some pics and send them to a company that's been doing some nice work with brake vents. We'll see what they come up with. Their system vents to the center of the rotors so the airflow is from inside to outside as it's designed to be. I've got track only pads for this year so we'll see how it goes! Looking forward to it!

I was planning on using the stock dust shields to make something that does the same (brings air to the center of the rotors). If they are able to produce a "kit", I'd be very interested.

The stuff they've done so far is a kit according to my shop and they've been really happy with the work. They have a kit coming in for a Mustang this week that's around $200 including the intakes that are mounted in the bumper. I'd tell you the name of the folks but I can't remember! Anyway, if it works out I'll post it up.

I agree, after a bit of hard mountian driving my brakes got to the point I had to slow down considerbly because they felt like mush. But this is a totally stock g8 brake system.

I plan to do the 4 pot brembos up front, I'm sure that will help.

Had a great time at VIR! I was there 2 days last year but the sway bars made a big difference in the turns as well as running 255/35/18's. I ran Carbotech race pads and they were great for slowing the heavy beast down. The power adders were all that I hoped they would be; tons of torque to get out of the turns quickly and lots of top-end power for hitting 150 on the backstretch ... a fun time indeed!

Actually my instructor had a Z06 and it maxed out around 140! He was really impressed with the G8! Unfortunately I didn't get around to getting a way to take video. There's another event at CMP Oct 14-15 I may get to so I'll see about getting some video then if I go.

Mid Ohio turns out to be early May, Memphis is 16th-17th. Memphis will be newly paved and will be awesome!. They shortened it down to two days so it would be easier for folks to break away and go do it. Not gonna make it to Mid Ohio, two weekends in a row is pushing my luck with the wife :-)

Went to Memphis International Raceway and did the roadcourse there. Did a couple of 1.22 runs around the track. Car now has headers, intake, cam, BMR swaybars, CTS-V V2 brake upgrade and Michelin SS tires. Topped out going 140 mph at the straight and came in 4th fastest.
