at the track today mine came loose. lucky it got caught before it fell off. anyone know what causes this. i was told by a buddy of mine it is a common problem at a certain hp level. is this true? is it rpms? hp?
then when you "pin" it is this the same pinning that you do for something like a magncharger where the pin runs parallel to the crank?

You're certain the bolt was properly torqued?

nope, i used my usual technique. new bolt, 1/2" name brand impact, run it till it stops and then keep running it for another 20 sec or so. it has worked for me for the last 10 years on lots of set up's but failed me today. lucky no damage.

I have seen it on SC cars, not turbos. Try Loc-tite and make sure it is pressed on all the way before tightening.

yeah, i always use a longer than stock bolt to get it started and then the old bolt to pull it all the way on and then the new bolt last.

Interesting topic.... I spent the last two hours trying to get mine off...... Pain in the rear!!!! I am using an impact wrench and it isnt even budging......... completely stopped my Maggie install..... I think the one I have in it must have been Loctite'd with some serious Loctite!!!!! Still cant get it off...??....

no, that is the way they are. i use a breaker bar and a longer bar on that like the floor jack handle. the hard part is keeping the engine from turning when you put all that pressure on there.

What brand is the balancer that you have? Is it the stock balancer?

Here is my reccomendation, get a Powerbond underdrive crank pulley/balancer. You have literally doubled your power and that most likely results in about 35% faster acceleration. Now that is going to put a good bit more load on the stock crank pulley/balancer which isn't even SFI approved, and the Powerbond is. If you can underdrive your accessories 25% with the crank pulley it will definitely help reduce some load off the crank which could possibly be a result of your problem, this is just my opinion, just trying to help, not just trying to sell you something. But, if you decide to just keep the stocker on there, and it comes off again, definitely get the Powerbond.

i think i see what you are getting at. the acceleration of the accesories is what might be causing the ballancer to spin since it is pulling thru the rpms faster than stock? slow them down and drop the load some.
there is evidence of the belt slaping the water pump outlet and that is at least an inch away from the belt. can you still pin the powerbond with a kit like the magnacharger set up uses?

Yes, you can still pin the crank.
