I'm taking the G8 to a Vinyl shop to have the roof blacked out.

They advised me to have the cleanest install, I should find out how to remove the antenna base from the roof.

So has anyone had to remove theirs and knows how? Or is there some kind of info out there on "how-to"?

Without an antenna radio stations will be hard to tune in.

I think he's just removing it temporarily while he gets his roof wrapped.

Will do.

Exactly. Once vinyl is on, I will reinstall the antenna base.

Ahh thanks, that helps with the 1st part. The big trouble though is the base.

This bottom piece is what they want removed.

Once you get it off you'll see how to remove that.
Again, I'm on the road and don't have access to my Holden stuff.

So I unscrewed the antenna, but nothing was glaringly obvious as to how to remove the base. I checked for any "clips" or release buttons, but couldn't see anything....

Take the head liner out.

I'm kidding..........

I expect the attachment is under the headliner. You're putting a vinyl top on a G8???

He's using a vinyl wrap.

Yea, it's a company that does Vinyl wraps for business. I'm just doing the roof only in Black.

They said they can work around the antenna base but it'd look best as one big consecutive piece of vinyl rather than cutting and resizing.

Sharkfin just mounts right over the existing base. I do think that there are mounting screws under the headliner, but that's just a guess. Sorry I'm not more help.

ahhh haaa... did not know that.

if thats the case the installer should just cut the opening a little smaller and go over the top, then clean up around it with a razor.

Just checked AllData. You DO have to remove headliner.

•Disconnect the antenna harness connectors (1).
•Remove the antenna module ground to roof panel retaining bolt (2).
•Remove the antenna module ground (5).
•Remove the antenna module to roof panel retaining bolt (3).
•Remove the retaining clip (4) securing the antenna module to the roof.
•From outside the vehicle, remove the antenna module assembly, threading the harness through the roof cavity.

Sure, of what? I think once the headliner is lowered it is pretty simple. The C pillar trim should make the headliner dropping easy. What pictures are you looking for?

I dont think the headliner has to be removed, you should be able to lower it enough to access the antenna.
You may be at an advantage with the sunroof.

Here is the list of things that need to be removed to FULLY remove the headliner. There are a lot of pictures, but they are drawings and not very good ones.

Warning: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning in the Preface section.

Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
Remove the following components:
2.1. Assist handles. Refer to Assist Handle Replacement.
2.2. Right front seat. Refer to Front Seat Replacement - Bucket.
2.3. Dome lamp assembly. Refer to Dome Lamp Replacement.
2.4. Windshield side garnish, on both sides. Refer to Windshield Garnish Molding Replacement.
2.5. Sunshade assembly, on both sides. Refer to Sunshade Replacement.
2.6. Windshield defroster grill. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement.
2.7. Front door opening weatherstrip, on both sides. Refer to Front Door Opening Weatherstrip Replacement.
2.8. Centre pillar upper trim panel, on both sides. Refer to Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel Replacement.
2.9. Rear seat head restraints, if fitted. Refer to Rear Seat Head Restraint Replacement.
2.10. Rear quarter upper trim panel, on both sides. Refer to Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement.
2.11. Rear door opening weatherstrip, on both sides. Refer to Rear Door Opening Weatherstrip Replacement.
