holy shit! list your mod's! lol. Brian is the MAN!!!! I'm guessing your car still shifts at 6000 at WOT right? lol. My TCM and the gremlins are a PITA.
Have you played with sport mode and manual mode yet with the tune? It's absolutely explosive!

What were your base numbers?

-Ray-
10-27-2008, 12:26 PM

They are posted in G8Smitty's thread. Basically the same as everyone else plus or minus 5 percent.
If we kept stat's we would have a bell curve. Some high, some low, but the most in the center. Then we have the fliers, or the freaks as we call 'em.

my scanner isnt working :( ill see what i can do...
yes i have the arh long tubes. roto fab intake. i never did a base line but i had a temp 91oct tune to keep the light off and it put down 340ish and when brian tweaked the tune for 93 oct and some other tweaking it bumped up to 358.8 and 371.4tq. i was impressed none the less. he also said it had a tiny bit more but wouldnt push it to the limit

BTW sultech, what ARH headers do you have? The 1 7/8's or the 1 3/4's?

Apparently I have the same setup as you. Brian got me up to 343rwhp and 352rwtq on his dyno. I'm very curious to how he was able to get you up to 358? How many miles on your car?

Blackdevil77
10-28-2008, 05:38 PM
is yours tuned for 93? or was it 91? If you are tuned for 93 and have the same tune and mod's, then id ask Brian. However, things like weather and the cool down the car gets can make a difference. I'm sure it was much colder when sultech did his power run than when you did and certainly when i got mine done. It was so hot and muggy for me. How much of a cool down did your car get?

Well, I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that it doesn't matter what the dyno says, it's what your mph is that best reflects rwhp, assuming you get a good launch and your routine for running the car throught the 1/4 mile is good. For instance, my rwhp is 337 torque is 348 and my best time is 13.4's at 105+. The guys that are putting out more rwhp than my car are also turning better e.t.'s and mph. The long and the short of it is run your buddy and see how close they are (at the track preferably).

No need to get defensive. Just post the proof. No one is doubting the gains BTW. Those who do, I am sure will get removed.

Alright. I'd love to ride in a cammed G8 too. That would be some treat. In fact, I like the idea so much that I'm going to do this, hopefully soon.
Actually, now that I think about it, I was going onto the freeway and the road was damp and when the car shifted to third at WOT the car jumped sideways some on me and I had to get out of it a little. This was right after my tune from VMS, no kiddin'.

My tune is 93. It was a warm and humid day...raining hard all day in fact. The first pass with no tune, but with the mods, was 323. The second pass 30mins later was 342rwhp. About 45mins after that, the third pass came in at 343rwhp, and that's where we settled it.

yeah sounds like there was little cool down. The cold, dry weather makes that much of a difference believe it or not.

I don't want you to feel cheated but sultech's first pull was 35x, I don't remember the exact number. That was with a tune I plugged in for him prior to this day because I had a car stuck up on the dyno when we were supposed to originally tune him. So I don't have numbers for him untuned. That being said each car responds differently to mods and I've noticed with the gto's and now the G8's that there's a pretty good variation from car to car. I've had stock gto's dyno at 335 and then the same year stock car dyno at 350. Heat plays a big factor in all of these cars as well, not only what's around the engine but what's getting sucked into the filter. I try to set the fan to blow right on the filter and get the best air possible. Also I did leave your car a little safer because I remember you saying you weren't really interested in the track, so no reason to push it to the ragged edge in the tune. That doesn't account for the difference in power numbers though, his car just put out a good number that day. Maybe it was alittle better air, maybe his car is just a bit stronger, there are a lot of factors. If you'd like we can get your car back on the dyno and ring it out a little more. I just wanted to clarify a little for you.

Break ins can make a difference. Getting good ring seating goes a long way!

Thanks for the input and feedback! Yes, I did say that I wasn't taking it to the track, but was primarily interested in street work. I have to admit that I didn't exactly baby the car for the first 1000miles. So...I'm thinking it's not as tight as some other G8's. That's why I asked the dude how many miles he had on it.
No need to redo the dyno work. I'm very happy where I am. Once again, thanks for your help in getting me setup.

No problem. There are lots of variables when it comes to dyno numbers and break in is just another. Dyno numbers are good and all but in reality they're just signature jewelery *bling bling* lol
