Anyone have any info on what these 6l80e transmissions will hold with the proper tuning. I just started a cam install on top of all the mods listed on my sig. without really looking into power levels of the transmissions capabilities. I havent taken it to the track, but I know this is no slug.

havent heard of any one having tranny issues yet. Just axle issues. And with the power you are pushing it might be good idea to look into looking axles.

I'm guessing they were pushing almost 150whp and a lot more tq through it then Nate. I think and hope Nates will hold up.

Do we know if anything has been done to it?

How long has he been putting that much power through the trans?

How many hard runs does it have on it?

He soft launched it in that vid. That car is surely capable of faster time from that MPH.

Still, 9s with that boat takes some hefty power.

Oh, absolutely!

My trans needs to come out next week. I need to fix my oil leak and have the converter re-stalled, so I'm trying to decide if I should send the trans somewhere to get it "bullet-proofed".

Let every one know where you send it. Im sure others will want to know.

And ya havent heard anything else from this camaro...or the tranny

With just the blower at 7lbs of boost I dynoed 500whp on 91 octane and everything else was stock. Since then I got all the other parts in my sig. I seriously think Im probably quite a bit over 600 at the wheels with my current setup. Will have to put it on the dyno after the cam and see if she holds. Also anyone know of a trans builder that can make the 6l80e trans hold how much more power the stock.

RPM Transmission was reported to have a trans package for the 6L80e. One poster over on G8Bored had a rebuild and bullet proofing done.

Circle-D was working on one also.

There is another shop, whose name escapes me right now.

Talked to one of the RPM reps. and said all the could do is rebuild it and not really hold much more power than stock. I asked if built by them, would they supply computer transmission settings for their package and they said no on the 6l80e. Some transmission shops do this to maximize their packages.

Rossler has done quite a few 6l80e builds in vettes. I talked to them and they say they only have one "build" and its about $2500 and he says its holding over 1000 rwhp with 0 failures so far on cars that are dragged regularly.

I asked about a cheaper option for those of us that won't see north of 700rwhp, but he said this was the only option that has been tested and proved.

I completly forgot to research them. They build a mean 4l60e. Yes its up there in price, but if its proven to hold the most from the rest of the builders, than I think its worth it. Will research them a little. If true of power level capabilities then I can finally plan on adding over 100whp to the car.

Hey Welcome back! Congrats on the new additions. I made 4 passes Friday night and so far so good on the tranny. I think it's only a matter of time till i have issues with it but I don't drive much anyways. Smoked any GTR's lately?!

Hey, whats up Nate. Great setup you have. Got to meet up sometime when I head out to Vegas soon. As far as challengers, none lately. Do you have any idle clips after the cam install. I was really concerned with idle on mine, which is why I went a little on the stealthy side.

I only have video of just the cam setup. I'll get video of how it sounds now at idle. It sounds a little more stealthy with the blower.

For what it's worth, my brother's Camaro put a little over 500 hp to the ground through a Rossler transmission and the transmission took a shit with less than 5 track passes on it. The new transmission is an RPM transmission. It might have been a fluke but I'm not willing to recommend Rossler right now.

A few locals have been going the Turbo 400 and 4L80's in their VE's, as no matter what the local "Guru" trans builders do, they admit there's no conclusive fix for anything making big torque. Seems 4-5-6 clutch packs seem to like the extra strain :loser:

1stGXPmaggie2.3
02-15-2010, 04:56 PM
Spoke to Rossler Co. and said it was mainly clutches that go up in smoke and that they just dont replaces clutches with better ones, but also rework the valve body for better flow characteristics. I know theres never guarantees with stuff like this, but examples of other similar trans builds with big torque and hp., helps on deciding who to go with being that its a fairly new transmission style. Was given examples of a few 1000hp 6l80e builds in light and heavy vehicles.

Tempest2000

Rossler has a warranty so I think there is a little more to the story...

Not to mention 500rwhp is nothing compared to most drag cars.

Details might explain this a little better.

also

Did they mention anything about the seals that need to be replaced per the TSB?

I think he said 2300.00 but not sure, I forgot. Still going to keep my options open and research more trans builders for when trans does go bad. Just trying to be prepaired whether it cost more or less.
