View Full Version : High Flow Cats

We've had a few inquiries about high flow cats for the G8 and we're trying to get a feel for how many people are interested. In addition to direct fit replacements for the stock converters, we're also looking at doing converters for some brands of headers. We'd be interested in your thoughts.

Welcome! I have used your cats on a few Turbo Buicks and other projects. The big thing I see is getting rid of the restriction in the pipe that bolts to the manifold. If you want pics I have them.

I'd be interested for some stock fitment to go with my M/F system if the price is reasonable.

Get rid of the 90º angle the stock ones have and we're golden!

Welcome!

A hi-flow direct replacement cat that was ODB II compatable for emissions would be a good item for g8 owners in states/locations where LTH and their relocated cats are not an option.

Being Master Certified and a performance enthusiast there is a huge market for Random Tech converters and I will gladly vouch for them on all the sites I am on.

Thanks for the welcome. Getting rid of the 90-degree was my first thought- that has to be killing flow. As for reasonable cost, that depends on your perspective. We build everything in this country and use 304 stainless. Obviously, our stuff is more expensive than Chinese parts. On the other hand, when you call us, you'll actually get a real person who speaks English.
Until we get some prototypes put together, I can't say for sure, but judging by the photos, I'd guess we're looking at an MSRP of $340-350 per side, and a "street" price of $290-300. We don't offer group buys, because that puts us in competition with our dealers-- but if there's enough interest, we can put something together with a few of those dealers, and possibly get the price a bit lower.

Sounds reasonable to me! :first: I was guessing the 500-600 dollar range... 500 is of course better... lol

Oh and I am all for USA parts on my AU/Mex car... lol

Glad Random Techonology is on board with the G8 :)

Something to bolt up to the stock system would be GRRRR8

GRRRR8-- we really appreciate your positive words. We think we make GRRRR8 products too, but we're a little biased. Seriously, we are committed to building the best products we can. That isn't to say we haven't had an occasional complaint, but if the issue is legitimate, we address it and do what's necessary to correct it. We welcome the opportunity to work with our customers to answer questions or resolve problems-- even if those problems don't have anything to so with our products. Open, rational dialogues help everyone.

4gasem- My guess is that if enough people order converters, you'll be able to get close to the $500 mark. Of course, we won't be able to use Australian/Mexican parts at that price.

As a former owner of Random Tech products I can tell you it was a quality piece the made a seat of the pants difference in performance. This was on a 07 Honda Civic Si.

I also called you guys up about a month ago asking for you get on with it and make us some cats. So what's the hold up? Don't make me go and get the Maganaflows.........nudg, nudge......hurry up already!

How about some confirmation?

It's the missing piece between my JBA headers and M/F exhaust. If the price is around $500-600 for stainless I think I would be in.

Charlie, If that were 100% true, 1/2 of your mods would be crap (LOL).
I eagerly await some type of replacement cat. Bolt on to stock manifolds would be good for me...

I have personally been to your shop in loganville. I have also seen your comaro tuned at engineered performance and hands down random technologies products are top notch - no junk here there and worth every penny

I called both Magnaflow and Random AGAIN today. No word on the time frame for magnaflow but they say it's coming. Random tech still need a stock cat to build us some thing. If any one has one that they could use please call them. I'm sure you could work out some sort of deal.

If the Camaro shares the same front sub, won't it be likely to use the same manifolds and cats?

I don't think they have ever posted it but that is what they need/want to get it done. I dont know if they will pay shipping or offer a free set/discount. I didn't go there because I don't have any to send them. They said to go ahead and make a post requesting them. It would be nice if they would be a little more pro-active in getting this done. For now the wait continues.
