View Full Version : Anybody had an issue with VIM install?

Looks like I'm going to have a long weekend of waiting for a response from JHP since it's Saturday over there right now, so I figured I'd try to get my curiousity answered on here.

I picked up the plug n play version of the VIM a few weeks ago, but just got around to installing it yesterday. Install was pretty simple, but the connector for the video input pretty much mandated that I disassemble the glove compartment. Simple enough.

When I was doing a little preliminary troubleshooting for figuring out why my video input didn't seem to work (still haven't figured it out, but I'm going to make sure the video plug isn't upside down), I keyed the ignition on and off a few times thinking it might need a sort of reset to display. On one of the key cycles I noticed some of the lights flashing on the information center, but I didn't think much about it. Since the functionality of the reverse activation seemed to work, I figured it was an issue with my video source, so I then cut teh orange wire while following the steps in the instructions. Nothing happened, as in the radio never reset on the 20 second mark, nor at any point beyond that.

In retrospect, I'm thinking something might've been wired up wrong in the little box with the orange wire, so it didn't actually require the wire to be cut. The flashing lights I noticed might've been the radio being reprogrammed? If so, my radio still works fine, but the VIM portion isn't working.

Any thoughts, especially from those who have VIM?

Before cutting the orange wire my system (with the JHP PnP cables) worked fine while the car was parked. The only time the video would stop (go black) was if the car was traveling over 2.5mph. Once cutting the orange wire and doing the VIM flash the video worked in motion.

While you are stopped, the video from one source (non back-up activated one) and see if you can watch the video while parked. If that doesn't work, something isn't right...

One thing I found when installing the video connection is that the connector with the lever action needed to be aligned properly. Also, make sure your radio is setup for the rear-aux to be active. And what are you using for your video source? Make sure it is working as well.

Maybe I should clarify on teh VIM not working thing. When I select the rear aux (which is enabled), it will show a black screen. When I go over 2.5mph, it shows text on the screen which says Rear Aux. I'm assuming the black screen means the video would be functional, and the text appears when video is disabled? If that isn't right then I'm probably just making noise for no reason, other than the radio not resetting after 20 seconds.

I'm using my iPhone for video. I brought the cable inside and tested it on my TV, and everything works fine.

I've tried both video inputs with no success, so I'm leaning toward an issue with the plug alignment you mentioned.

Thanks for your advice Todd, I appreciate it.

I probably won't be taking it back apart this weekend due to the weather, but I need to get to the bottom of the issue. If I didn't spend $500ish on it, I wouldn't be in much of a hurry to figure it out.

FYI- My input cables from them were labeled wrong . I'm sure it's something simple to fix. Hopefully

This is correct. If the VIM was working, the screen should stay black after you hit 2.5 mph.

I don't know the solution to your issue, but it sounds like the radio may not have reprogrammed properly (among other things).

I'm not sure exactly what you mean. The plugs were all a square plug square hole type install. The video inputs were red and black, with no labeling. I don't think that could cause any issue.

This is hopefully just something petty that's a simple fix, but we'll see. Thanks guys.

Removing and reinstalling the video connector solved the no-video problem. However, the VIM flash didn't take apparently, so I'm working with JHP to get it resolved.

I had a similar issue, my video quality sucked bad. I was just the connector didn't seat well on the radio plug.

I would always suggest people test it before they put everything back together. LOL.

What a pain to take back apart afterwards.

JHP asked that I ship my VIM back to them. It should be in their hands by now, so it'll be a bit of a waiting game.

Anybody ever had the back-up sensor plug NOT have power? I was probing wires with my meter trying to verify that the green wire is the one I wanted, but none of them get 12v, even with the key on and reverse engaged. I'm suspecting the factory left the fuse out on 09.5's or something.

I wanted to update this in case anybody searches for it in the future. I had what was apparently the first VIM that was defective out of the box. JHP (at least Denis) got me taken care of with no major issues, but it did take a little time. Everything seems to be working fine now.

You should add tags to your thread so it can be brought up in a search. Thanks for the update.
