I need to lift the rear end of my car and place it on jack stands. What is the best way with the G8.
In the past I have had cars with a solid axle and used the differential to support the weight. I am not sure the G8 diferential should be used to support the weight.
Suggestions?? :uhm:
Thanks

Use the jacking points on each side, just in front of the rear wheels. This is also where the jackstands should go. 1 side at a time.

I did lift at the diff when I put my exhaust on. Used a soft block of wood between jack and diff. Had no issues.

Should you put the jack pad on the pinch welds? Or next to them?

I jacked at the diff (with a block of wood) to get it up and then put the jack stands right on the front cradle points where the bushing are.

How can you put a jackstand there if you are lifting from the same point with a jack?

Good question. I've been looking for a good spot too. My jack stands have a U shaped cradle, so I don't want to use them on the pinch welds, and I've tried the forward subframe mounts, but I can see the washers deform as I slowly lower the car. There's gotta be a better place.

There are pads inboard from the pinch welds behind the front wheels & in front of the rear wheels.

My jack stands have an u shaped cradle. Should something like a 2x4 be placed on them to better spread the load area?

I would be careful with that. A soft wood like a 2X4 will let the jack stand bite into it which is good to keep it stable, but could also split, which is bad.

If you have some treated wood it's stronger, or some hardwood would be better.

correct the pinch welds are the best place. I believe there are arrows there to show where you should jack it up at.

You don't want to lift the car from the pinch welds unless there's a slot in the jack pad, otherwise you'll bend it.
ummm.... use a drive on lift?
come on now people..
