Are there any particular ways to get the fastest acceleration from a stop? or is it best to just mash the pedal to the floor?

also what is the best way to accelerate from already going?

it depends on your mods, traction and other thing. The best thing to do would practice and buy something like a Dashhawk that can record your 0-60 and find what works for you.

If you can get traction then that's the best way to go. If not you need to pedal it.

With my not so wild car it's not usually an issue in the dry.

The best way to accelerate is faster than the other guy ;)

I go 2/3 to 1/2 throttle depending on temp then roll into WOT quickly.

Forgot the 2nd question....Stab it and hold on.

I would have to agree, it all comes down to traction and grip. If you aren't spinning tires, then you are accelerating.

Thanks for the info everyone... my g8 is not modded at all yet so traction isn't really an issue.
My buddy from work got the new dodge ram with the 390 horse power hemi and he bet me lunch that he would beat me in a race. I rode in it and it is pretty quick. I will let you know how it goes!

If a 425hp SRT8 is equal with a G8 GT then you should beat the Ram pickup. It weighs in at 5600 - 6000 pounds depending on the truck, and the G8 weighs about 4000 pounds.

If your 100% stock you can just mash it to the floor most of the time from a stop depending on traction conditions. The tune mostly prevents the tires from spinning even with tcs off.

The r/t does 0-60 in just under 6sec. So u should beat it.

Its only lunch so win or lose its just fun. I bet you can take him if stock for stock if he is modded and you stock it will be close but you will get better traction since he is a pickup on street tires. I am going to race a modded Silverado SS AWD this spring when he gets his heads and cam done and retuned.

If you're stock and on dry roads a soft foot brake at 700-900 TC off

I haven't really practiced launching good without spinning, but I keep hearing a lot of people saying that their G8 GT stock doesn't spin from a dead stop and I'm confused. When I had 200 miles on mine I hit the peddle, fully expecting it to spin the tires and it sure did. I got sideways in no time and had to let up a little to get moving and I didn't have it to the floor. I'm starting to think that maybe I got one of the good ones or something. Now that I have the CAI and tune, forget-about-it, it just spins the tires. Sorry to highjack.
Just practice to see how your car is going to respond and try not to spin your tires. You shouldn't have any problems.

^ I concur. If you have the summer 19's, you may even get to push it a tad more. I generally aim for 1000 or 1100. Anything over 1200 and your spinning...even on the track for me anyway. On city streets, you may spin regardless if you do any brake torquing. Depends on climate, road conditions, type of pavement, tires, the list goes on.

Just mash it and hope you don't hit anyone.

When my car was stock and my winter tires on, I could get sideways from a roll on dry pavement.

Raced at BMP in Bradenton, FL on Saturday. Car hasn't been on dyno yet, so I'm not sure of RWHP number (See mods below). On 19" Bridgestones @ 30 psi (rear), a quick dry burnout just to clean the tires and launching at IDLE, I cut a 1.95 60' and ran a 13.02 @ 105.73 with a strong crosswind. Most of the automatic GM cars I've owned (93 Z-28, 93 Vette, 05 GTO, 09 G8/GT), performed best launching at idle or just "off idle.
