How difficult is it to have an extra key made and fob programmed for a G8?

thanks...

Contact the dealer. From what I was told the retractable key fob costs a couple of hundred dollars or so to replace; the non-retractable one I'm not sure about off the top of my head.

Does the non retractable have remote start?

the day I bought the car the salesman told me to carry around the non-retractable key because if I ever lose the retractable one it would cost $600 to replace, which I find a bit odd.

The non-retractable key does have remote start.

Your car will come with 2 keys. 1 switch blade and one straight key. Both remotes function the same.

Thanks guys, the dealer lost one key which they are going to replace @ their cost. The one that they have is the retractable one. But I have always had an extra key for all my cars. According to the dealer the key comes from GM cut and the dealer has to program it, just got off the phone with them.

Since they have to order 1, have them order a switch blade for the inconvience. :)

Due to the uniqueness of the ignition/door lock key, special equipment is required to cut a key.

If you do not have the required equipment, you may order a cut/coded key through GMSPO.

To obtain a replacement key, the following procedure is suggested:

Obtain the vehicle key code.
U.S. Dealers: Access the "Key Code Look Up" application through GM GlobalConnect under the Parts Workbench.

Canadian Dealers: Access the "KeyCode Look-Up" feature within the OEConnection D2DLink application.

Submit a part order through the GMSPO Parts System for a key blank. Be sure to include the key code in the "note" field of the order.
Do not order an uncoded key as you will receive a blank key that will require coding on the special equipment listed below.
Important: The order will be shipped the same day if received by 12:00 p.m. (noon) EST, or within 24 hours, Monday through Friday via FedEx (Canadian dealers will be charged for freight for overnight (CSO3) orders).

Important: The remote control transmitter and the key shank are not serviced separately.

Tip
The new key and transmitter will need to be programmed to the vehicle. Refer to Key and Transmitter Programming in SI for details.

I never ran into this, but it kinda sounds like Mercedes keys. You order it throgh gmspo with the key code and they send you one already cut. Just have to program.

I broke my switch blade key and had to have the key side of it replaced. it cost me 60 dollars from the dealer, 46 dollars for the Key, and 14 dollars in postage. The key had to be sent to somewhere in Michigan to be cut, then shipped to the Dealer I ordered it from. I was amazed at both the price and the turn around time, I had my key in 6 days of ordering it.

Does the non retractable have remote start?

Yes, it does. :)

I ordered the flip key portion and just swapped over the remote. Remote is the same regardless of flip or straight. I still need to have the key cut and programmed. Here's were I ordered from.
