Brand: Monster Clutch (Stage 4)
Price: Lists for $749
Purchased From: http://www.monsterclutches.com/level4clutch.html

Installation: If you've done a clutch then you know. I was lucky enough to have Steve, Matt and the crew at Monster install my clutch. THANKS!
Installation Time: Not sure

Quality of Part: 10
Product Performance: 10 (night and day better than stock)
Would you Recommend to Others: Hell Yes!

Any Other Comments: Like Steve and Matt warned me, there is some chatter when I take off in first gear. It's already gotten better since I've picked the car up yesterday. From what they told me it usually takes around 500 miles and a few heat cycles to break a performance clutch in. Once I'm moving it's no different from stock as far as chatter. As far as the clutch grabbing likes it's supposed to, it's night and day different compared to the stock clutch!

I didn't beat on it at all yesterday because I was tired as hell and just wanted to make it to Vicksburg to sleep for the night. Today on the drive home after each stop for gas, while I was on the on-ramp, I would run it hard and shift quick. I left 4' black marks on the road hitting third gear! I even think I chirped the tires hitting forth! I won't beat on it too much for the next week or two until the clutch is fully broken in.

The only other aspect of the clutch that is different is the pedal pressure is a little stiffer but that is to be expected with a clutch that will hold twice as much hp/tq as the factory clutch. I noticed the stiffness when I first drove the car after the install. After driving on the 1100 mile trip home, I'm completely used to the pedal pressure. I can say I don't even notice it anymore. Steve measured the pedal stiffness increase and I think he said it was around 9% stiffer than the factory.

Steve and the guys at Monster were GREAT to work with! I'm not just saying that because of the clutch. They are genuinely good guys and I mean that sincerely. If you're in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, then I would recommend SNL Performance for any of your G8 performance needs and damn sure for their clutches.

That's great. I'm glad it worked out for you! If you don't mind me asking, do you know how much it cost you to have this done? I know the install was free, but I'm talking about the gas, flights, hotels, etc.

I got lucky on the flights. Wife's parents used frequent flyer miles. Gas was probably around $250 and hotels were around $300 (3 nights). Food was probably $100. All in all, it was about the cost of the clutch but I got a free install and helped the G8 guys!

Do you know off hand how many M6 GXP's were made?

I'm guessing around half of the 1880 produced... I really don't know for sure though.

So, ... you're saying you like the stiffness?

Glad to hear you like it. It's a shame GM would put in such a crappy clutch to begin with.

How difficult would the install be for a DIY'r ?

I'll assume the transmission has to come out, for starters ...

Honestly, I don't know for sure but I don't imagine it would be much/if any harder than a standard clutch install. Yes the transmission has to come out.

found this:

Iron flywheel vs. Aluminum flywheel - Pros and Cons? (http://www.physicsforums.com/showthread.php?t=152706)

which did you choose?

I went with the lighter flywheel. It's a little tougher to launch but once you get used to it it isn't that bad.

Now for an update on my clutch.

Driveability: It's finally starting to get broken in. It's been right around 550 "stop and go" miles. It will still chatter sometimes but those times are getting a little less each time I drive it. I would guess in 2 months my wife will be able to drive it without too much fanfare.

Performance: This clutch holds as advertised. I can spin hitting third gear any time I want. Once I get the GForce axles I'll be able to really hammer this clutch. Right now, between cold roads and wheel hop I'm stuck only being able to get on it fromt the middle of second gear on.
