I have the black holden window trim on my PBM G8. It is a semi-matt black. I'm thinking about painting the grills black and trying to decide if I should match the PBM or use a semi-matt black like the window trim.

What do you guys think?

Anybody paint the grill surrounds on a black G8? Got photo?

Thanks,
Ed

How about the grill in PBM and the chrome area matte black?

Hmm... I didn't plan on painting the actual grill, just the surround. Interesting idea. Not sure yet.

I would like to see how your car looks with the trim. Did you do the door handles?

You saw mine... granted its MGM and not black. I think the grill surround looks better color matched then black. I thought about going with semi-flat or matte black on mine as well but my body guy convince me the color matched would look better and he was right.

On mine the actual grill was painted as well in addition to the surrounds. To do it all over again I wouldn't paint the grill color matched, I would have gone with black or left it plain plastic.

Be prepared for a lot of sanding on the chrome surrounds! Took a lot to get the chrome finish off, then used an etching primer and adhesion promoter. Finally a couple coats of paint and clear then bake it. Quite a task for such a small piece. I wish someone would sell a non-chrome set!

PS - You should shave the front emblem while your doing this! You have to pull the bumper anyways. I think it looks much better without it.

No. Did not do the door handles. If I find a black V6 that wants to trade I would do that.

There is a guy who is said to be working on some carbon fiber grill surround replacement pieces. That could be sweet too. Not cheap but sweet.

If I do the grills I will probably black the darts too. I thought about removing them but somehow reminding people it is a Pontiac, in a stealth way, seems cool to me.

Carbon fiber would be cool, even more so if there were some other pieces to tie it together. Like mirror caps, spoiler, rear valence, etc.. Wasn't someone working on a CF front lip?

I agree about reminding the competition, that's why I debadged for the most part but left the G8 GT on the back. I'm sure I've made a few people Google it due to various encounters.

Yours looks great and it is what really got me thinking about doing mine.

yes. Mine is already chipping, as I did not entirely remove the chrome - big mistake. Spend the time and to it right. Also, in removing the surrounds, I broke many of the "clips". There is a technique whereby you put slight inward pressure on one side, then slight pressure on the other side and they slide out. Do not be tempted to pinch in on both at the same time.

Your car looks great! Assume a lot of custom work on that bumper. Black looks good on yours with that lower section!

I was the first to paint the grille surrounds. I have pics in my album I think. However since my car is LR I won't bore everyone with the pics.
It was done by a dealership, and I chose gloss black to go with the same color that's in the head lights. Outside of a rock chip, I've had no problem.
If you want to see them, hit me up, I'll post a couple pics.

I should have painted the grille along with the trim but i was stupid and seperated the ring from the grill. Ill be happy to tell you what I used, just PM me.
