This is the only thing missing from the NEP CAI, and you can make one yourself! I found a broken black trash can at Lowes (PP Plastic) and bought it for half price ($4.25). I then made a cardboard mock up of what I wanted to do and then I cut the trashcan to match (plastic is one piece). I have it formed down to the frame and wheel well to headlight, to block off all engine air. Took me about a hour, but turned out pretty nice IMO. Hardest part was locating the hole in the proper place. I may go back and cut around the ID plate on the fender, but it's good for now.

Thanks everybody :) it turned out a lot nicer than I thought it would.

I just edited and added a pic that shows some dimensions to help start anyone else. It could have been a little bigger, so start with something larger than what my pic shows.

Special thanks to MBower for the CAI and HSRK.

LOOKS GREAT great ingenuity!!!

Now---WTF does that 90*-degree silicone coupler say? (in white text)?

-Mike

ps, I wanted to add---that take care of the edges of the plastic so it doesn't vibrate and eat away at your nice paint! (love that color!)

It's pretty stationary as is, but I'll keep an eye on it. I've already gone back and trimmed around the ID badge (first post edited to add final picture).

ps, the text says viscosity motorsports.

I will have to do this too... Winters coming now so all I'll have is CA in the engine bay... But come warm weather I am all over this one!

Good job and thanks!

Thanks for the info.

I would say put on some sort of rubber gasket at least. You'd be surprised how easily vibrating objects eat through things!

What IAT's are you seeing compared to ambient?

Yeah, I'll figure something out this weekend to keep the paint safe, maybe some weather stripping around the edges.

Don't have a Dashhawk yet (waiting for sale or used piece), so I'm not sure on specs.

I'm thinking of wraping the intake with header wrap to try and keep it cooler. Not sure if it will make that much difference, but I think it may help keep the intake a bit cooler. Heat soak sucks :)

Well Vector HAD (may still) a sale on them. They were cheap enough that I jumped on them. I don't think you'll see them much cheaper and they work with a whole host of cars so I see no reason to sell it...

GeorgeInNePa mentioned this last week I think, and when I loged on to purchase, they were showing full price :(

Guess I need to ask Chris if and when they might have another.

How did you attach it to the fenderwell and how did you get the thing in there, did you put it in all in one piece? WTF, but, mighty tighty I must say.

Yes my friend, very tight fit, just like I like it :D :ls:
Here's a shot from the side.

Had to run the elbow and filter threw the panel from the inside. Then re-attach the HSRK and elbow to the silicone coupling that attaches to the MAF Sensor. I also had it loose from the TB so I could move it around.

Whew....too much typing. Did I mention that I only used a razor knife?

Guess George aint the only bad ass ROFL

I drove a hour threw very heavy rain today which explains the water spots.

Form other posts, here and on other boards, the conventional wisdom is that heatsoak doesn't affect the air going through the intake tube. The velocity is such that the air doesn't have time to heat up from the heat stored in the plastic/metal.

There was a coupon code for DashHawks. PM Vector, call them, or email through their site. I paid $250 and I think they might have been cheaper since then.

It's worth the money.

:)

I've already replaced it with a larger cone with out the HSRK for winter time. I'm cleaning the other one and will use it for summer time.

Thanks :pee:

Shawn, Is that plug going into the silicone around the filter for the HSRK? I haven't seen one installed before.
