Been all over this board and the other board..looking for info..mainly prices. Haven't found any prices on...say a 3.27 swap. One more thing...what would be the rpms on a 3.27 rear at 80mph in 6 gear??

I have checked into 3.27/3.45 a few months back. Only in Oz and almost a grand! With a 4.02 1st gear, gears are not important until it can rev at least another 500 rpms(6500-6700)

Was thinking this would help in the 1/4 mile times/street races. The G8 isn't my daily driver. What are you meaning by the revving thing??
A grand isn't all that bad...a set of long tubes is getting close to that, and how much eta would the headers gain you vs. the ratio change?

with a 4.02 1st gear in the trans, its like we have 4.56 on the launch. If we cant shift at 6500 + no since in a bigger gear. Now I am putting a torque converter and for street racing and such that and a set of DRs is easily worth .5 -.6 all day long!

Wait till the GXP is released and you should be able to order them from....a vendor :)

Ok....I see where the stall would help at the track...but how does it help you when doing a 40-60 kick street race. Can you 'brake torque' it. I'm used to brake boosting in the srt...which helped alot.
I just want to get in the low to mid 12's....thinking of spray also.

A good converter from Circle D will allow you to flash the RPMs even at a roll to get the car into the power band easier. NOS is always GRRRR8! I am in the early stages of working on that too!

With the AUD to USD that price may be a few hundred less now!

Maybe Paul can hook some up!

Biggest I was looking at was maybe a 75 shot..just don't know if it'd work with the 93 octane tune from vector,do to timing advance.
the kit for the lsx engines from zex looks interesting...plug & play with the drive by wire thing.

I am giving NOS the 1st shot due to years of using their products. If they do not respond Zex will be next.

Send a PM to SS Enforcer.

He recommends against a rear gear swap.

A friend just offered me his NOS universal v8 wet kit for $200. All he has is the 100hp jets,so I'd have to order some more...like to stay under a 75 shot,so the thing won't blow with the vms tune. I'd have to get a purge kit also...ppssstt!!!

He's not terribly pleased with the way his converter works either as I understand it.

Likes the converter, but brushes the limiter which is going to be a issue until someone redesigns the 1-2 clutch pack system.

First I've heard that someone had the answer to this....

I have been doing research, but no answer on how to fix it! It is not the conventional clutch pack. Why? Well tq management, and some other engineering marvel is all I have so far, but I will see if it can be replaced with a conventional type that has no slippage.

I didn't mean to imply that SS was displeased with his converter itself, just that he was reporting issues similar to my own with the way the converter interacts with this overly complicated piece of shit that GM has given us as a transmission.

Lowering TM to very little has been tried with mine, no joy, so I think it's something beyond that. What, I have no clue but I hope next week will provide some answers.

The thing that bugs me most is that it doesn't happen on all cars. If they all did it, then it would be something we could collectively figure out. If only mine did it, i would assume bad part. Unfortunately it's neither all nor just one.

Best answer? Maybe a way to swap a TH 400 into a G8?

4L80e/3200 stall/ 3.73-4.10 gear is a permanet fix currently.

Bolt up with correct converter, YES. Get all the computer shit to jive, hasnt been done that I can find. It is only a 4spd too, but very durable. Our trans will get figured out. I just need to do more reading on the hi-hp Vettes to see what they are doing.

i have the best tuner in the country coming to look at mine on Tuesday. I remain hopeful.

I agree 100%! I have been in situations that you just have to see it, feel it for yourself and then getting to the heart of the problem happens quickly.

I believe our best bet are GXP wrecks that have good 6Ms for our cars.

Not for me, I don't like manuals.

Seeing how I'm still interested in changing the rear ratio...I thought I'd post some numbers. The current mph's in each gear at 6250rpms(raised rev limiter) vs. changing to the 3.27 ratio

2.92 3.27

1st.....42 1st.....37
2nd....72 2nd....64
3rd.....110 3rd....98
4th.....147 4th....131
5th.....198 5th....177
6th.....253 6th.....226

cruising at 80mph.. 1964 vs. 2195

don't think I'd want to go 253mph....it a G8...

I'm still interested too, very much so.
